DreamWorks has released the first trailer for Craig Gillespie’s 3D remake of Fright Night which stars Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, David Tennant and Imogen Poots,  I did a set visit for Fright Night and recently watched twenty minutes of the film in a Santa Monica editing suite.  I’m confident the remake is going to be cool.  Judge for yourself by checking out the trailer after the jump along with the poster.  Fright Night hits theaters August 19th.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—but everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

    wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, this looks wicked

  • Kasia Nowakowski

    Heheh, good one :)
I don’t think I will see this though as this is not my kind of movie, you know :)

  • Zippy

It’s strange that David Tennant doesn’t show up in the trailer at all. Colin, as always, looks magnificent. Like Kasia, it’s not ordinarily my type of film, but, for Colin and David, I’m seeing it!

    • Al

You can see David at 2:09 when Colin is climbing the ceiling in the background.

      • Zippy

Sorry, I must have blinked! They are certainly keeping him under wraps.

  • Carson

I hope David Tennant does more American mainstream movies from now on, tries to reach his full potential as an actor and tries to win an Oscar.

    • rriker

Scifi Tv actors rarely become big in Hollywood, and he has that soft goofy sensibility to him, so that’s there to limit him too.

  • Cali Kid

Is it just me or does that look exactly like Disturbia with a vampire?

    • DamnBASTERD

That or any random episode of ‘Supernatural’

    • Excpired

Yeah it would be that only Fright Night came out WAY before Disturbia or Supernatural. This is classic vampire fair, I was really liking it until about the last 25 seconds of the trailer. The ending looked dumb.

Looks good but I think they showed a little too much.

  • junierizzle

This looks better than I thought it would. I like how Yeltsin becomes a bad ass to take out the Vampire.

  • Alex H

    Rear Window with fangs.

  • jymmymack

I hope everyone on the boards has seen the first film. It’s a rocking good 80s flick. When the news of this remake first came out, it got flamed, especially for making Peter Vincent a Chris Angel like magician, but I always liked the idea of a remake. This is a set-up well suited to be retooled for new generations.

i hate when trailers show pretty much the entire movie.

not a horror fan but that looks damn good

  • rriker

Every frame of the trailer is laughably bad. I can’t do much but laugh at most of these (commercial) movies that come up today.

  • Chuck

First off i hope they release the GREAT original on Blu ray.
2nd- I love the original and Im disappointed in this trailer. Just dosent feel like it should.

  • WyldeMan45

Is it just me or did anybody else shut off the trailer halfway through for giving away WAY TOO MUCH. I want to be surprised so come on man don’t show the entire movie in your trailer 5 months before release!

  • Matt

The trailer seemed like it gave away too much plot, but the bigger question is, is the 3D really necessary?

  • Collider Troll Killer

I’m actually pretty disappointed by this trailer. A bummer, because I LOVE the original and I think this cast is great. I was really hoping Mintz-Plasse was going to channel Evil Ed from the original. If they’re going to remake it, I’m all for re-telling the story in a NEW way. But this [trailer] just seemed more concerned with explosions and CG motorcycles. A far cry from the fun/scary/sexy/comedic/gory spirit of first one. This trailer + Criss Angelesque Peter Vincent, has me seriously doubting the film :(

  • Jazzy Jace

At last, a vampire movie actually worth looking fwd to! No gay vamps & werewolves called Edward and Jacob; instead we have Jerry, a bloodsucker so badass, Steph Meyer will wish she wasn’t born, lol!!!!!!!

  • chris gault

big thanx to jazzy jace for the homophobic comment … please don’t reproduce and please do die in a fire …. on the flip side i agree hollywood needs less sparkley vampires … sun kills vampires … it doesn’t make them sparkle.
