Concept Art for Disney’s Upcoming Princess Movie, FROZEN

     August 7, 2012

New concept art for Disney’s upcoming princess movie, Frozen, has leaked online.  For those unfamiliar with the film, Kristen Bell voices a young dreamer named Anna who teams up with “a daring mountain man” to find the Snow Queen (Idina Menzel) and put an end to a spell that has trapped their kingdom in eternal winter.  Broadway vets Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Winnie the Pooh) tapped to pen original songs for the feature.  Chris Buck (Tarzan) is onboard as director.  I’m glad Disney has another animated musical up their sleeve, but it will be computer-animated, so it looks like the studio has gotten skittish when it comes to 2D because The Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh underperformed at the box office.

Here’s the official synopsis for Frozen:

In “Frozen,” a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

…oh good, another, this-is-just-a-means-to-launch-another-sappy-Broadway-musical, from the Disney marketing team.
And wait, it’s about a spirited, would-be princess and a cocky but lovable rouge who joins her for selfish reasons at first, but then realizes… zzzzzz..
Not an original idea from this studio in decades.

pleaseeeeee shut the fuck up. for me.

…gee, with that kind of prose you must have written the screenplay for this dreck.

Gotta disagree with you. Tarzan for instance was nothing like you described.

Their more recent fare has followed that pattern, sure, but there were a few rough gems. Tangled was rather good for example. It had sharp dialogue and mostly great characters. That said, it would have been even better if they ditched one or two of the singy numbers and edited out one or two goofy moments (the “guess I’m a little bit jumpy” thing for example. Urgh!).

Whille I am excited that Disney is finally adapting one of my favorte fairy tales, I am disappointed with some of the changes. Like Anna? WTF is wrong with the name Greta? But I can understand adding the “daring mountain man” since having the sole primary agonist being just an 8-10 year old little girl could be an issue.

Winnie the Pooh underperforming at the box office was Disney’s own damn fault. They released it on the same day as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the silly old bear didn’t stand a chance. I bet Disney could have at least doubled their box office take on that film if they had released in the spring or fall.

Anna? Isn’t there already a princess named Tiana? Disney should change Anna’s name! Really, couldn’t there have been some more imagination? If they changed Gerda’s name from the original story, they could have at least picked something more unique.

  • Corlinie

Yeah where did the name Anna come from? It’s like if they changed Rapunzel’s name to Emma. Her name was Gerda in the original story and now it is Anna. Why would they change a perfectly good name? They should change it back, or change it to another meborable original name.

    Disney Frozen Anna’s Name
In the movie there wil supposedly be a guy named Hans, another guy name Kristoff and a princess named Anna. Author of original Snow Queen story is Hans Chritian Andersen.
    Hans Christian Andersen . . .
    Hans Kristof Anna!
But there could have been a little more creativity with Anna’s name, I agree. For example, the name Coriander is unique, unlike any other princess name, and even has more of Andersen in it then Anna does. (The ‘Ander’ part.) Coriander and Kristoff sound good together. Even Coriander and Christopher! Name change needed! Hans is ok I guess . . . . . . .
