There are very few mediocre sitcoms that have proven so extensively fetishized by nostalgic fans as Full House, the San Francisco-set family comedy that introduced the world to the Olsen twins while also creating careers for the likes of Bob Saget and John Stamos, among others. As a repository for fashion decisions and hair styles that have no place in a decent, tax-paying society, the show remains a thing of endless fascination, but as an actual show with characters and jokes, Full House is hit-and-miss at best. Still, nostalgia is a force to be reckoned with, which is likely the reason that Netflix has given a full season order to a revamped Full House, tentatively titled Fuller House, set to premiere sometime next year likely.

The new series will focus on Stephanie and D.J. Tanner, played by returning cast members Jodie Sweetin and Candace Cameron Bure, the eldest daughters of Saget's Danny Tanner and the older sisters of Michelle Tanner (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen). It's early on into negotiations for the series, which will run for 13 episodes, but both Saget and Dave Coulier, as the puppet-voicing Uncle Joey Gladstone, are currently being looked at to return for the new run of episodes, along with other past cast members. The entire cast has kept surprisingly busy since the show's end, especially Saget, whose eye for evergreen network comedies remains just as sharp, as he supplied the narrating voice of the father in How I Met Your Mother until its cancellation. Regardless, the news of the show's return follows in a long line of recent 1990s nostalgia pick-ups, including returning seasons of The X-Files and Coach. I would not, however, hold your breath for M.A.N.T.I.S. or Millenium to come back.

Here's the show synopsis from the press release:

In Fuller House, the adventures that began in 1987 on Full House continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Cameron-Bure) pregnant and recently widowed, living in San Francisco. D.J.’s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona, all move in to help take care of D.J.’s two boys — the rebellious 12-year-old J.D. and neurotic 7-year-old Max — and her soon-to-arrive baby.
