When it comes to the Fast and Furious movies, every sequel is an opportunity to go bigger and more badass with the stunts. The stunt coordinators and second unit directors of Furious 7, though, have truly outdone themselves when it comes to cars that parachute out of a plane. Because yes, they actually filmed that.
A new promotional featurette interviews some of the crew, including the aerial cameramen who leapt out of a plane and filmed car dropping on top of them (more or less), as well as some of the logistics of the shoot. The pilot of the plane, among others, talks about the essential nature of spacing the five cars out along with the cameramen, and making sure that none of those things — plus the helicopter, also filming — ended up colliding. Not to mention the fact that all of these components needed to not kill the crew on the ground.
As Tej (Ludacris) says to Roman (Tyrese Gibson) at the start of the featurette, “are you freaking out? Yes, you are.” And yes, actually, so am I.
Thankfully, it all went off without a hitch, but check the featurette out for yourself to see just how insane the whole idea was.
Furious 7 will premiere in theaters and IMAX April 3rd.
