Watch the Super Bowl Spot for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION; Plus New Action Figures Give Us a Look at Cobra Commander

Continuing on with the barrage of Super Bowl spots landing online today is the 30-second preview for G.I. Joe: Retaliation. I’ll admit I had absolutely zero interest in seeing this movie; that is until the first trailer was unleashed. Though I know relatively little about the Joe universe, Retaliation looks incredibly cool. This Super Bowl spot gives us a great deal of new footage, including a look at Cobra Commander, as well as some eloquent Jay-Z citation by Dwayne Johnson. I’m fairly certain the overriding theme of Retaliation is simply “badass.” In addition, we’ve got a few images of the movie tie-in action figures set to be released in anticipation of the sequel.

Hit the jump to check out the Super Bowl spot and action figure images. The film also stars Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, and Bruce Willis. G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29th.

    • It would have made more sense if Cobra commander had looked like this in the 1st film the mask they had him in at the end was very diffrent to the comics and hasbro cartoon.

  1. this movie is going to be terrible … joseph gordon-levett and chris eccleston were the only things that made the 1st one semi watchable.

    • Or…she’s stolen right out of the GI Joe movie from 1987. Or you know, the original source material, the Animatrix film from a fear years ago. Sigh. It’s like people thinking the Fantastic Four ripped off Incredibles.

      • That Jinx. But where Sgt. Slaughter at then. She was part of Slaughter’s Mauraders Where’s Tunnel Rat, Mercer, & Falcon??

      • @Dane- She wasn’t part of Slaughter’s group. She was one of the new recruits. Slaughter’s Mauraders was the group Falcon was sent to for screwing up. Also, in order to use Sgt. Slaughter, they would probably have to get the rights from the WWE.

  2. Fastest reboot ever? :)

I had a great time at the first ‘Joe for the first third. Hooting and hollering. Then, it just kept going on and on. Nothing mattered. I was impressed by the scope and how much it tried to be huge. Eventually, the tenuous suspension of disbelief was broken hard and it was just watching pretty graphics and hollow melodrama.

This already looks way more interesting. The action looks cohesive and fun. No idea if the characters will be worth tagging along with though.

    • lol It’s a sequel not a reboot! So maybe it’s about time for you to start doubting it again because this is not a reboot. It is clearly Gi Joe 2, so sorry to burst your bubble there, but yeah the truth is the truth!

      • It is a mixture of both imo. The fact that so little of the 1st movies cast have not returned and the trailer indicates that the gi joe organisation been destroyed reeks of a reboot. I am glad they have followed on from the president/zartan storyline. I thought the 1st film was fairly good but the over the top technology in it made me cringe a little. This movie at least won’t have the delta suits in it.

  3. So damn sick of “action” movies which are all about slow motion posing. Get off your ass and choreograph some real time fight scenes.

  4. Looks way better than the first one. I’m glad they didn’t give up on the brand after the first outing. I grew up a huge fan of G.I. Joe and Sommers movie bore no resemblance at all to the source material. This looks to be a good step in the right direction. It would be nice to see Tunnel Rat somewhere.

  5. I just noticed that that looks an awful lot like Firefly next to Cobra Commander. I wonder what the total roster for the film is.
