Gael García Bernal is setting a course to The Loneliest Planet. Deadline reports that the actor has signed on to star in the indie thriller written and directed by Julia Loktev. Per Deadline, “A young couple backpacks through the Caucasus Mountains in the Republic of Georgia. When they hire a local guide to make through the isolated wilderness, their relationship is tested in ways they never anticipated.” Wait…the couple’s relationship with the guide or the couple’s relationship with each other? I don’t suppose it really matters until cannibalism comes into play. I’m not saying there’s cannibalism in the movie, but that’s how all relationships in the isolated wilderness are tested.
Bernal will next be seen starring with Kate Hudson and Kathy Bates in the comedy Earthbound. Loktev’s most recent film was the 2006 award-winning thriller Day Night Day Night.
