Warner Bros. has purchased Daniel Sussman’s original script Galveston. Produced by Polly Johnsen, the story is based on the destruction of the Texas city in September 1900 by a Category 4 hurricane that claimed about 8,000 lives. At the time of the disaster, Galveston was a burgeoning metropolis that was billed by some as the “Wall Street of the Southwest”. In the wake of the disaster, Houston rose up but Galveston never reclaimed its former prominence.
Per Risky Business, “Against this backdrop, Sussman’s script traces the stories of a pair of young lovers on the verge of being separated, a struggle for power among various bureaucracies and a bitter love triangle involving two brothers.”
