MISFITS Star Iwan Rheon May Have Joined GAME OF THRONES Season 3; Could Be Playing Fan Favorite Ramsay Snow

It looks like Game of Thrones has picked up another bastard. Former Misfits star Iwan Rheon seems to have joined the HBO hit’s sprawling ensemble; while there’s been no official announcement yet, Rheon’s agents have added the show to his official CV. While the vitae only specifies that he will be playing a “Boy,” many giddy fans are already speculating that he’s set for the role of Ramsay Snow, aka “The Bastard of Bolton.” Based on some of your comments in our last (massive) Game of Thrones casting round-up, this should come as welcome news, indeed. Keeping in mind that we have no confirmation that Rheon will be playing Ramsay, hit the jump for a bit more on the character, plus some visual evidence that would seem to all but confirm that he’s joined the cast. Mild SPOILERS if you haven’t finished watching Season 2 yet.

Further proof that this young thesp will be win-or-dying it next season can be found in the following Facebook pic, which features Rheon hanging out with Games cast members Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) at a bar in Belfast, Ireland, where production on Season 3 is underway (via winteriscoming.net).

Now for the spoilery stuff. Fans of the show will remember a scene in Season 2, when Robb Stark is informed that his old pal Theon has betrayed him and seized Winterfell. At this point, Roose Bolton, one of his lieutenants, is all like “No worries, bro. My bastard’s all over it.” Ramsay is that bastard.

That’s all I have to say about the character, since I’m avoiding book-born spoilers. But I can tell a lot more about Rheon. Basically, the guy is a rock star. For the last three years, his character Simon has been the anchor of UK supernatural drama Misfits, a tough role that had Rheon playing a very creepy kid who was never less than completely lovable. Not many actors could have pulled it off. Anyone who hasn’t seen the show should remedy that as soon as possible. Once you do, it won’t really matter who he happens to be playing on Game of Thrones; you’ll just be psyched that he’s on board at all. Of course, we’ll update the post once HBO makes an official comment.

Given that Neil Innes (Dagmer Cleftjaw) was given all the deeds in book two that were perpetrated by Ramsay, it would be pretty lame if Innes weren’t secretly Ramsay the whole time. Until book five all the horrible things Ramsay does occur in book two, and all deal with the sack of Winterfell.
Besides, who is a better bastard that Chris Finchy?

    • WinterIsHere

That wouldn’t makes sense. In the show, Dagmer meets Theon at Pyke, before he sails for the Stony Shore. Why would Ramsay Bolton be on the Iron Islands???

  • JackofSpades

This guy looks too petty to be Ramsay.

  • João Amaral

Ramsay is, without a doubt, the most hated character in the series. Not even close to a fan favorite.

  • Sam

This is good news, no matter what part he’s playing.

  • Katy

He really is a rock star! Loved that guy on misfits

“Fan favourite”? …No. Noooooooooooooooooo. NO. Nobody likes the Bastard of Bolton. I won’t say anymore, but – no. No no no no no.

Iwan Rheon would be brilliant in the role, because he is brilliant. I am terrified to have him play somebody so loathesome!

    lol, ”fan favorite” ….

    Fan favorite? Hell no.

So he’s a bastard in every sense of the word, then. Look forward to seeing what Rheon can do with that! Since it’s been brought up, I used “fan favorite” somewhat ambiguously in the title, not to indicate that people are all like “Go, Ramsay!” but rather that they’re very invested in the character/the actor playing him. “Who is Ramsay?” the masses have demanded. “Why aren’t you telling us more about Ramsay? Can Cillian Murphy be Ramsay?” and so on and so on. In other words, he’s been favored with attention, if not affection. Not surprising on either front given how off-the-charts despicable the guy is.

Though if anyone out there does totally heart The Bastard of Bolton, his (dis)honor could use some defending in this Comments section. Regardless, going on what little I’ve read, sounds like he could prove enthralling in his utter baseness, especially with Rheon pulling the strings.

I love villains as much as heroes, and I have to say Ramsay is firmly a favorite of mine.

    ***BOOK 5 SPOILER****
I can’t help but laugh at how he’s right next to Theon and the cropping of the picture makes it look like the latter is missing some fingers.

I also thought the Cleftjaw was supposed to be Ramsay. He certainly looks like the Bastard of Bolton, at least how I envisioned him. In any case, I didn’t think Ramsay Bolton even really appeared before A Dance with Dragons; if he did, it must have been very brief and not very significant. I think it’s more likely he’s playing Edric Storm, Jojen Reed, or one of the Freys–characters that are actually important in the third book.

Theon’s not in the second book either though – because he’s with Ramsay. But Alfie is clearly coming back, and Iwan is filming with him…connect the dots.

The creators have already said we’d be seeing Theon this season, this probably means we’re going to see the torture scenes. You need a Ramsay for that. Also Jojen Reed is already being played by Thomas Sangster.

Iwan is too pretty to play Ramsey, though if he pulls it off it would show how good his acting ‘game’ is. I’ve seen Misfits and this would require a transformation that my mind cannot conceive.

  • AlyLaff1002

Everyone is commenting on how he’s “too pretty” to play Ramsay Snow, but the actor that plays the hound is a good looking man and they manage to make him look the part. Would you like them to re-cast Alfie Allen’s Theon after his appearance changes due to what he goes through with Ramsay? Give some credit to the budget and the people that make this show, they haven’t really given any reason for me to doubt them so far.

Ramsay Snow is deplorable in the books, a murdering, raping, pillaging psychopath who, unlike all the other characters (excepting maybe Joffrey), does not have a shred of humanity in him. I would not call him a ‘fan favourite’ – in fact, he scared the bejesus out of me when I saw him through Theon’s eyes.
However, Iwan Rheon was able to make the irrevocably creepy Simon loveable, so I am willing to give the actor a chance. Unfortunately, he doesn’t really have the imposing stature I imagined Ramsay to have. He looks more like a young Roose Bolton… the latter is very scary, but in an offhand way. I’m interested to see where this goes, though! Ramsay does make Joffrey and Cersei look like Winnie the Pooh and Tigger….

  • Skullever

*raises hand* I for one loved Ramsay in the books. He’s the perfect type of person to bring Theon, the ‘Prince’ who thought he was on top of the world, and drag him down to the bottom where he belongs (if only he’d paid the iron price…)
