HBO has released the first trailer for the fourth season of Game of Thrones.  Plenty happened in season three, but it ended on a bit of anti-climatic note, or at least as anti-climatic as crowd-surfing on a mosh pit can be.  But this trailer is here to remind us that death and destruction are the true rulers of Westeros, and that while “Winter is coming”, war is already here.  Also, Jamie Lannister has a new haircut.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Game of Thrones returns on April 6th.

So much good stuff coming up this season, know what was coming in season 3 made me sad but I can only be giddy for what’s coming this year :)

Without fail, someone says this every year and we never get whatever ‘it’ is. I’m a fan of the show, I’m just saying the book people hype it up too much.

      • Marisa

Ok so as one of the ‘book’ people me saying that last season’s Red Wedding had me sad before the season was hyping too much?
Let’s just say without spoilers that Tyrion has a really big moment coming up near the end of the season that I’m excited about and a certain King that everyone hates might finally…. There’s not much weepy sad time in the new season for which I’m glad.

Tell me, how is HBO planning on reconciling the crappy (or rather, underwhelming) Feast for Crows and Dance of Dragons? And what will happen when Weiss catches up with Martin?

    • Jim

Feast was good to me. Clash was the snoozer if you ask me.

      • James

I’m the opposite. Clash was the best in the series for me, and I had to struggle to make it through Feast. Same with Dance.

      • James

Not Clash. Storm was the best. Clash the second best.

      • Jim

I agree with you on Storm, but not with Clash. I almost skipped Clash and onto Storm.

Logically, they would combine the books, since they run chronologically parallel to each other for the most part, and then split them between two or three seasons. But there will a lot of trimming since both books are rather lengthy.

However, Weiss/Benioff might stretch it out if they think Martin won’t deliver before the last season of ‘Feast/Dance’ is over. Having to adapt an entire novel isn’t done overnight and especially when you haven’t had years to refine it as they have with the first 5 books. They’d probably want a year or so before production on “Winds of Winter” starts.

‘Winds’ will take two seasons most likely. So we’ve got, at most, 5 or 6 years for Martin to finish ‘Winds’ and ‘Dream’. Hard telling if he can pull it off, but I’m guessing he’s got most of it figured out. Closer you are to the end the easier it is to tie everything up; Even easier considering Martin already knows how it’s all going to end.

If HBO catches up to Winds and it isn’t out yet, I can see HBO going ahead and making a prequel since Martin just came out with his Novella. Since there’s a lot of Dragons, I can see HBO making since the fan base is so big.
It will be expensive to produce since they’ll have a whole new cast and a lot of CGI but it could give Martin some time to finish his last two books.

      • The Flobbit

Straight to prequel…that’s an interesting prospect. Maybe do the Dunk and Egg novellas…

      • The Flobbit

No, there isn’t enough meat in the last two books to make THREE seasons, let alone two. I think someone needs to strap Martin to a chair, Misery style. Where’s Kathy Bates when you need her?

      • The Flobbit

Your one-word abbreviations of the books are new to me. I’ve always heard them referred to as initials: GOT, COK, SOS, FFC, and DWD.

And the next two books are The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, correct?

why ain’t no bruthas reppin in this??? this show is mad racist bro. wheres mah dawg cuba goooding? hed be a bad ass night yo.

    • Lex Walker

Why can’t he be a bad ass day? You saying Cuba Gooding can only be night because he’s black? Now who’s racist yo?

    • Jim

Just because there’s no black people, doesn’t mean it’s a racist show. If you watched the show, you’ll see there’s plenty of colored actors.

  • Nomis1700

Shit is gonna go down! I know it, I’ve read the books! :D

    • Tom

      Great and now stfu ;)

      • Nomis1700

      • Bugger you!

Joff, the Hand, Shea, Viper, Mountian(sorta) Ygritte all eat it. Now you STFU

They always have great music in their trailers, this song is by Chelsea Wolfe and called “Feral Love”.

I was intrigued by that track in the snippet that showed up in the Vine teasers, but as soon as I had a chance I looked it up. Good track.

Who are the two in the slapping face bit? I don’t recognize either character, I assume they’re new although the two shots are quick.
