Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark got the short end of the stick throughout the first five seasons of Game of Thrones. Aside from psychologically terrorizing her, her fiancé had half of her family killed before marrying her off to his uncle. After she was blamed for Joffrey’s death, she fled, only to be handed over to another psychopath, who added physical trauma on top of that. Sansa eventually reclaimed Winterfell with her half-brother, Jon Snow (Kit Harington), and she is finally now in a position of power. But Turner teased a barrage of new threats because it’s never easy being Sansa.
During an interview with EW, she said of Sansa in Season 7:
She’s seemingly in control for the first time – and it really suits her. She’s kind of having a bit of a power trip. But she’s also becoming more insecure, because there are threats to the power that she holds.
Since fleeing Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), she’s been building up her own personal power, acquiring Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) as her personal enforcer, and helping to win the war for Winterfell by enlisting the aid of Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen). But it was when she walked away to the sounds of dogs tearing Ramsay to shreds that there was a stark (pun intended) shift in her presence. She knows she has power, and she enjoys wielding it.
Turner also teased a meeting of characters:
What overall excites me about this season is that main characters are coming together and it feels like things are ramping up. It’s really exciting and all feels like it’s coming to a big conclusion.
Fans have already heard of one of these meetings, thanks to leaked footage and images from the set that’ll probably spoil some major scenes so don’t look if you don’t want to know. The penultimate Season 7 won’t premiere until the summer, so teases like this will have to hold us over for the time being. At least we have our first look at Team Stark.
