Paparazzi have been the bane of’ existence. Season 7 started a bit later than usual to take full advantage of the colder weather, but everyone from professional photographers to fans with camera-ready smartphones are out and about trying to capture the latest intel on what’s coming next. In case the headline wasn’t enough of a spoiler warning, we’re about to discuss something pretty major that’s been revealed through a leaked set video, so turn back now if you want to remain blissfully ignorant.
Still here? Okay, here we go…
Video and photos making the rounds online reveal that two of your favorite characters will be meeting for the first time: Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). After the revelation from last season, this is a pretty big moment.
A long-running fan theory, R + L = J, was confirmed in the finale: through Brans’ visions as the new Three-Eyed Raven, it’s revealed that Jon is the son of Ned Stark’s sister Lyanna, who died during childbirth while held captive by the Targaryens during the war against the Mad King. While the “R” part hasn’t been shown on screen, the timing pretty much confirms that Lyanna conceived Jon with Rhaegar Targaryen either by consent or force, which means Jon is a Targaryen.
It also means Daenerys is Jon’s aunt. (Dany was born after her old brother, Rhaegar, was killed.) Let that sink in for a moment. The last moments of the finale showed the Mother of Dragons, her winged children, and her Dothraki and Unsullied armies sailing for Westeros with Theon and Yara Greyjoy’s ships. According to the video below, they’ll somehow cross paths with Jon, who took back Winterfell for Team Stark.
