On Monday, we reported that Warner Bros. was going to drop a climatic scene in their upcoming film Gangster Squad because the scene was reminiscent of the shooting in Aurora, Colorado this past Friday.  Because the scene, which features characters shooting through a movie screen into the audience, was important to the plot, the film was going to require reshoots.  Rather than take a moment to breathe, trust the maturity of moviegoers, and keep the film intact, Warner Bros. will delay the movie to accommodate reshoots.According to THR, the studio is now looking at a January 11th release date.  [Update:  THR followed up to report that Warner Bros. officially moved Gangster Squad to January 11th.]  While this will clearly push Gangster Squad out of the awards race (although it was looking more like a straight action movie anyway), it will give the production time to reassemble the cast, find time for the key players to do press, and give the film weak competition in the also-delayed Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of Gangster Squad, and to check out the trailer, which includes the soon-to-be-nixed scene. Here's the official synopsis for Gangster Squad:

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
