Garrett Hedlund to Play Hook in Joe Wright’s PAN

     January 23, 2014

Last month, we reported that Hugh Jackman was in talks to play Blackbeard in Joe Wright‘s Peter Pan origin story, Pan, and now it looks like Garrett Hedlund (TRON Legacy) will be signing on to play Hook.  Per the film’s logline, the story is about “an orphan [who] is taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes the savior of the natives and leads a rebellion against the evil pirates.”  According to Deadline, Hedlund beat out Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) and Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) for the role.  Deadline says “Hook” is a lead role, but doesn’t specify if he’s a captain in this origin story.

Pan will open in 3D on July 17, 2015.  Hedlund will be seen in theaters later this year in William Monahan‘s Mojave and Angelina Jolie‘s Unbroken.

  • The Dude Abides

    He’s no Dustin Hoffman

  • The Flobbit

Cool. Garrett is a diverse and talented actor who I’m sure would bring a roguish, swashbuckling flair to the role.

    • DNAsplitter

After his performance in Death Sentence, which i’ve only recently discovered, I more open to his acting. He was good in a film that was mediocure (even w the Amazing Kevin Bacon).

      • The Flobbit

Try him in On the Road, a role where he shows his charisma and range.

      • Mixed Race rich kid NYC

        He blew in it
He has less charisma and range than a mannequin at a forever 21 store

      • jack

why are you shopping at forever 21? why are you even looking in the window at that store?

      • cezar211091 .

        please die

Garrett hedlund went to the school of acting that teaches you that a stoic face = great acting

      • Ryuk

And you visited the school of retarded mixed race rich balloons in Uppishland..

  • pickaname

Nothing against Hedlund personally, but I just don’t think he has any screen presence or enough charisma to be Hook. If he does, I have yet to see it.

    • The Flobbit

I thought he was pretty charismatic and memorable in On the Road, but that’s just me…and a bunch of teenage girls. He’s not a bad actor.

      • pickaname

I have seen on the road, and I do respect your opinion but I’ll have to disagree. I know he was playing a different role than he had in any of his other movies (which is admirable for any actor) but I still didn’t think he had any screen presence. Maybe that’s just me.

      • Mixed Race rich kid NYC

We all know you have the same taste with teenage girls
Maybe that explains your penchant for young men
        Weirdo / fag

      • felele

        thanks god, he’s not alone

      • newwan

Oh, I see, the ‘Weirdo / fag’ is his signature…

      • cezar211091 .

        fuck off,you dick

      • Pk

I wish he is cast in the next spider man movie as Eddie Brock

The last pan didnt do all that well
So this movie is a big risk that will most likely backfires
    Lets see
The movie will be directed by joe wright
Joe wright is a non-commercial director using 3-D for the first time. So that means the movie will most likely be beautiful to look at with not much substance (Hugo, avatar with life of pi being the exception) but joe wright is not ang lee. Character doesn’t matter to him (Anna Karenina), all he wants is good visuals and a dazzling score.
Lets look at the last Peter Pan movie. The well done 2003 movie. It was beautiful to look at and it failed miserably. Audience saw the trailers and was turned off by the dark lit cinematography.
Now lets be real with ourselves. Joe wright’s movie will look like the 2003 Peter Pan film but without the substance and the audience will most like sit that one out or see minions a second time or just wait for the next marvel show

One can agree that the 2003 Peter Pan had no recognizable faces but how do you explain the failure of hook by spieldberg ? (Yes hook failed as it didnt generate enough revenue to satisfy tristar, spieldberg, Hoffman and Williams as those last three didnt take salaries)
Peter Pan is one of the story that we know so well that it’s stupid to spend money just so we can have the story being retold to us no matter how different the story will be told. (Hook by spieldberg)
    Anyway this movie will flops

    • cezar211091 .

      your existence is a flop

      • cezar211091 .

you always complain about things and you use this word too much

  • mattinacan

    ohhh casting fail

  • cezar211091 .

i liked him in four brothers but he’s kinda young for the role

I’ve had it with this motherf****ing origin stories. I know Disney has an origin story of Han Solo and Indiana Jones in the pipeline. Although Indy has been done in a good TV show. I mean, come on. We had a good origin reboot of Batman and James Bond. That’s it. The rest is mediocre at best. Anybody remember Hannibal Rising or Prometheus? The new Jack Ryan was a bomb, too. The Star Wars prequels with the origin of Darth Vader were… you know.
Who needs an origin story of Hook or Peter Pan?
I mean, what else is out there? The origin of Dirty Harry? The origin of Jaws as a Pixar movie? The origin of the Terminator? Wait, they already tried that one. The origin of the Wizard of Oz? Done.
The origin of doing something original would be fine. Try something new and let it rest.
    Just my two cents.
