The Accountant and Warrior director Gavin O’Connor is in talks to direct the action-thriller Fast for Warner Bros. The script comes from Sicario and Hell or High Water screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, who was previously in negotiations to direct. However, Variety reports that a deal couldn’t be reached and the studio started looking at other directors.

Fast follows a former special forces commando who is recruited by the DEA to lead a black ops strike team that targets drug dealers who are protected by the CIA. David Heyman and Jeff Clifford are set to produce via the Heyday Films banner.  Chris Pratt was previously in talks to lead the possible franchise starter, but his involvement is unknown now that Sheridan is off the project.

There’s no production start date yet since O’Conner is currently in post-production on the sports drama Torrance. That film reunites him with his Accountant star Ben Affleck, who stars as an alcoholic former athlete looking for redemption by becoming the coach at the local high school he used to attend. O’Connor was previously attached to Suicide Squad 2 before Torrance, but reportedly left the project after running into story issues — which of course opened the door for James Gunn to take over after he was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Sheridan has been on a role in recent years. He landed an Oscar nomination for his Hell or High Water script before moving into directing with Wind River. He also created, wrote and directed Paramount TV's hit Western series Yellowstone, which is expected to wrap its second season in May. As we reported last month, after Fast fell apart for the filmmaker, he set his sights on the hard-boiled thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead.
