Rumor: George Clooney and Noah Wyle Vying for Role of Steve Jobs in Biopic

     November 18, 2011

I’ll give you a second to read that headline again so you know that the next few paragraphs are not written in stone. In a report from The Sun (via Slashfilm), they suggest that former ER co-stars George Clooney and Noah Wyle are in competition for the role of Apple-icon Steve Jobs for a biopic by Sony. While there is no factual evidence to support this, Wyle did once portray Jobs in the TV biography Pirates of Silicon Valley and Clooney is being courted to play in almost everything. Rumor or not, Sony is definitely anxious to get production moving on the biopic and is banking on Aaron Sorkin to pen the script. Hit the jump for more on this project.

noah-wyle-imageWhile Clooney certainly has the chops to play the role, I can’t imagine he’d give up that Hollywood hair to more adequately portray Jobs. Perhaps, since we’re talking crazy anyway, both actors could play the role at various stages of the icon’s life. Clooney, the self-assured, turtle-neck-sporting genius giving speeches to the gathered masses and Wyle, the college drop-out climbing his way up the tech ladder.

Clooney’s The Descendants is currently in theaters and his next role in Children of Men-director Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity will be out on October 19th, 2012. You can check out a review of The Descendants here and see what Clooney has to say about Gravity here. Wyle is next set to star as George Pickett in the TV mini-series To Appomattox. I’m personally looking forward to his return in season 2 of TNT’s Falling Skies. Oh, and “one more thing…” Check out the video below for an emotional scene between Wyle as Steve Jobs and Anthony Michael Hall as Bill Gates in Pirates of Silicon Valley. (The man is a lock for the role!)

Noah Wyle for me, he looks more like Jobs. Clooney not so much

  • Lance

Just finished his biography and I’m convinced Jason Schwartzman should play Steve.

    • digits

and I’m convinced you’re out of your mind. First of all, looks nothing like Jobs…

Daniel Day Lewis or Christian Bale I’m sure could embody Jobs and all his complexities, with the kind of performance worthy of such an icon. Wyle is a decent TV actor, but there’s no way he’ll get the role. Clooney…no way.

  • stan

Ashton Kutcher looks remarkably like a young Jobs…don’t think he could pull it off tho…

  • Chris

I think Stanley Tucci would be a great choice. Great actor and he resembles Jobs. Google him and look for yourselves. He can pull it off too.

  • Ryan

Tucci could do it but I’m game to see Wyle reprise the role. PLus Jobs himself gave his blessing and behavioral tips to the man and even had him prank an audience at an Apple conference by going out in character. Most of them were fooled until Jobs himself stepped out!

  • LAME

Noah looks alike and is cheaper than anyone in a list of possible actors playing Jobs.

And we’re pretty sure he can play any stages of Steve’s life.

  • Strong Enough

PLEASE GOD NO CHRISTIAN BALE> tired of dude going skinny. its not healthy for you.

  • Serena Cole

It’s a phenomenal story and a slam-dunk Oscar for whoever plays Steve Jobs.

  • atp

    Billy Crudup!

    • Josh

Dude thats actually really good casting. Crudup has the acting chops and he has more big screen experience that wyle. But at the end of the day the script has to be top of the line, they can’t hold back.

  • Oliver

Why is Steve Jobs dressed like Han Solo?

  • Mr.Orange

Wyle would be a good choice. But anthony Michael hall as Gates was amazing. Maybe Jesse Eisenberg in the new movie, but that may be too close to Zuckerberg.

  • Tarek

Clooney ? Really ? Who have had this stupid idea ?
