I have very mixed feeling about laughing at this new Get Hard trailer.  Marking the directorial debut of Tropic Thunder and Men in Black 3 scribe Etan Cohen, the film stars Will Ferrell as a Bernie Madoff-type wealthy investment banker who enlists the man who washes his car (Kevin Hart) to help prepare him for a maximum security prison sentence.  This trailer has good jokes, but my Lord does this look like it could veer into all the wrong kinds of offensive (like Bringing Down the House; good offensive is stuff like South Park).  The trailer doesn't seem to be poking fun at racism as much as its saying, "Yeah, these stereotypical black gangsters are violent criminals, but Ferrell's character is just approaching them the wrong way."  There's also a prison rape joke because prison rape is the kind of rape we'd prefer to see as hilarious rather than horrifying.  I hope I'm wrong about this film, but even if I'm wrong, I may still end up enjoying it anyway because I'm not great.

Hit the jump to check out the new Get Hard trailer.  The film opens March 27th, and also stars Tip “T.I.” Harris, Alison Brie, and Craig T. Nelson.

Here's the official synopsis for Get Hard:

When millionaire hedge fund manager James (Will Ferrell) is nailed for fraud and bound for a stretch in San Quentin, the judge gives him 30 days to get his affairs in order. Desperate, he turns to Darnell (Kevin Hart) to prep him for a life behind bars. But despite James’ one-percenter assumptions, Darnell is a hard-working small business owner who has never received a parking ticket, let alone been to prison.

Together, the two men do whatever it takes for James to “get hard” and, in the process, discover how wrong they were about a lot of things – including each other.
