Columbia must be high on Crank. The studio is in early negotiations with Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the men behind the 2006 Jason Statham actioner and 2009 sequel Crank: High Voltage, to helm the Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The pair scripted both Crank films as well as the this week’s Jonah Hex, and may end up doing a rewrite of David Goyer’s Ghost Rider script as well.
The 2007 original starred Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze — the demonic Marvel Comics character with a flaming skull — and totaled $228 million worldwide. Columbia are in similarly early talks with Cage to reprise his role, but rumor has it that they be forced to move forward without him. More after the jump:
Heat Vision reports that the studio is hoping to get cameras rolling by the fall, in order to keep the film rights from reverting back to Marvel. However, if Disney can get all its ducks in a row, the studio may likewise target a fall start for the production of National Treasure 3. The latter is a more reliable brand, and may be more appealing to Cage by virtue of paycheck alone, no matter his unabashed love for comics.
Plot details are under wraps, but Steve spoke to producer Mike De Luca earlier in the year, who shared the following details about Spirit of Vengeance the film:
- Eva Mendes will not return as Roxanne Simpson
- The film will take place in Europe and be a hard PG-13
- The sequel will be like “pushing the reset button” on the franchise
- The creative team is considering a 3D production

Well, if Taylor and Neveldine rewrite Goyer, we're already better off.
Dont is it really going to be a new ghost rider movie i would love to see heard lots of things and read a comic once pretty cool but when is it coming out coz im bored waitin ppl til then watch hot tub time machine and live my life
I have no idea what you just said, but you are 100% right…or not…I don´t know.
I found a great site –** SeekingAffluent.com **– It 's where you have the opportunity dreaming about dating a millionaire and make it true *_*
i like neveldine and taylor, but goyer is a great writer. when it comes to directing? not so much.
but his work on blade alone (literally reinventing a character that was lamer than a 3 legged dog) has to be applauded. i mean blade didn't even have his own comic at the time, now all his comic appearances are based off goyer's movie version.
The first Ghost Rider was one of the worst films I've ever watched. I can't believe it's getting a sequel.
