THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO News; 8-Minute Trailer Online, Listen to a 35-Minute Sampler from the 3-Hour Soundtrack

by     Posted 1 year, 195 days ago

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross earned Oscars for their The Social Network score.  They reunited for David Fincher‘s new film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and the duo have outdone themselves.  Reznor announced on his website that he and Ross have created “a sprawling three-hour opus”, and if you want to pre-order it, you’ve got some options.  There’s the old-fashioned digital download for $12, the higher quality Apple Lossless or FLAC download for $14, the 3-disc CD for $14, or you can go nuts with a $300 limited edition on the box set.

Hit the jump to find out what’s included on the $300 edition.  After the jump, you’ll also find the 8-minute trailer that debuted to select audiences earlier this fall.  Finally, do you remember that awesome cover of “Immigrant Song” that played with the movie’s teaser trailer?  It’s on the soundtrack, and you can download it right now from iTunes The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21st.

First up, here’s the 8-minute trailer via iTunes.  I haven’t watched it because I don’t want to sit through the movie having already seen eight minutes worth of footage.  But for everyone else, you can watch it below:

girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo-soundtrack-cover-artHere’s a message from Reznor about his and Ross’ score:

For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher’s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers. The result is a sprawling three-hour opus that I am happy to announce is available for pre-order right now for as low as $11.99. The full release will be available in one week – December 9th.

So what does that $300 beast of a box set give you?

Oh my God, everything is exactly how I pictured while reading the book. It looks amazing

We finally get to see that 8 minute trailer! Thanks a lot for posting!

Although the aspect ratio is off on that player. It’s too stretched out. It needs to be squeezed a bit.

  • mucha

It looks good. I just don’t feel it. I don’t know why.

  • BrandonHeat07

It looks good, but still feels kinda pointless if you already saw the original.

I just finished the book, so I wasn’t worried about spoilers. There is apparently less of the standard book-to-movie shorthand, though I expect there will be, since there are essentially three stories interwoven through the book, and I’m assuming the movie isn’t three or four hours long.

Sorry, I just can’t help myself from reflecting on Matt’s childish ways and his refusal to view the footage. How did this guy get involved in any way with the world of films? He hasn’t read the book. Continues to refuse to read it, yet comments negatively on this whole project. Continues to bask in ignorance which he once again does by not viewing this 8 mins. of footage. What an ignorant silly inmature man. Still, this web-site is one of the best and I must express my gratitude for being able to watch the above footage. I have read the book. I liked it. I have seen the original film and liked it and Noomi Rapace very much. I just viewed the 8 mins. of footage provided by the new filmmakers and liked it also. I look forward to seeing what they have done and what kind of film they have come up with. Funny how once you step out of ignorance how interesting the world becomes. Pity to those who refuse to. I have friends, well acquaintances, that won’t watch trailers, won’t read reviews, blah blah blah….funny how their views on films, their perceptions and opinions after having seen films are so inmature and childish and most of all incorrect! One goes with the other? Perhaps?

Bo, perhaps it’s just as simple as not wanting to have the images spoiled for yourself before you get to see the finished product as a whole. Where does it say you have to read the book and watch every trailer before a film comes out?

    • Bo

Ok Marvo…your having the need to defend poor Matt I’ll try to help you out…if I can as perhaps you are also as Matt so it’ll be difficult. Information is there…in front of you…not availing yourself to it for any reason shows a lack of curiousity, intelligence and sophistication. However, if one is a layman…just an audience member than so be it. Matt is not…he is, and I use the term in a hesitant manner, a professional. To continue to not only form opinions in ignorance and then comment as such is not professional. At the very least, no an excellent professionlism. To ask such a silly question as to where does it say you have to read a book or watch (every?) trailor is…well…silly! One has the choice. One can choose not to read…anything ever…not to educate oneself in any manner…ever…and continue to live in ignorance and sleep walk through life. Hell, 99% of the world’s population do so! Is that what you want to do, Mavro? Be my guest. Matt continues to do as such and he comments on films. To confront him on his continual ignorance is doing him a favor…if he so desires to see it that way. Was this of any help to you, Mavro? It’s all out there for us to see and discover. Why put blinders on for the sake of, what? Enjoying the movie more because you don’t know? I have spent years reading anything and everything about any film I’m interested in seeing and my enjoyment of these films has increased vastly because of me. But, then again…that’s just me. So do what you will. Keep your self-imposed blindfolds on for whatever childish reasons or take them off and wake up! Up to you. And Matt. No skin off my nose. Good luck to you, Mavro. As an old wiser man once said to me….Read Bo…read! That man was Francis Coppola and I am forever in is debt for that advice. I pass it on to you, Mavro…and Matt!!

      • Mavro

        Wow.

      • Bo’s Mom

Bo sounds like a real Dingleberry!

  • Mavro

    How old are you?

Really impressed with Trent Reznor’s soundtrack work; along with not just Social Network, but also the production of Natural Born Killers and Lost Highway OST’s.
But three hours. Is this a first?
Normally, when you buy a soundtrack, it is a condenced version of the film, or ajust a fraction of the actual film length.
Is three hours the films length?
Also, has any other film out there had it’s full length released as a soundtrack?

Also, Trent is up there now with Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead) and Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (Bad Seeds) as some of the finest and most original film composers out there.

I viewed this 8 minute trailer and was completely mesmerized by the quality of everything and I do mean everything … from the story line, to the music, to the quality of post production which is a cut above what I am used to viewing when I go to the movies!

    Amazing.

Hello, Neat post. There is an issue with your web site in web explorer, would check this? IE still is the market leader and a big component of people will leave out your great writing due to this problem.
