Along with the collection of new images and character bios, Sony uploaded a snippet of Trent Reznor’s score to the official site for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  In the clip, Reznor proves he can drone with the best of them, and I’m sure it accompanies a very tense, prolonged scene in the movie.  Out of context, I just get a little creeped out.

This is the second feature collaboration between Reznor and director David Fincher after The Social Network, which earned Reznor an Oscar.  Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, and Stellan Skarsgård star in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which opens on December 21.  Listen to the new music after the jump.

Here’s the new clip:

For posterity, here’s a rip of Reznor’s cover of “Immigrant Song” with Karen O from the trailer that y’all liked so much:

    Daft Punk> Trent

Daft Punk deserved that oscar. there are plenty of composers that could have done what Trent did. Daft Punk score actually made the movie better for some. how can yo beat that? thats just my humble opinion

It’s not that hard to make a terrible movie interesting. But I was extremely interested in the Daft Punk scenes and great OST. Daft Punk is great for dancing to, but Trent has that OST mind set. In otherwords it’s like comparing apples to oranges.

nah nah dont think so Trent sucks but i respect ur opinion.

My opinion is actually opposite that of yours. It frequently makes sense to me to replace “Best ______” Oscar to “*Most* ______” Oscar; i.e., “Most Original Score” in this case. It’s my opinion that Trent’s and Atticus’s work for TSN was much more original than Daft Punk’s, and added much more creative texture to TSN than Daft Punk’s did for TL.

Don’t get me wrong, however, as I absolutely love the score for TL, which was some of Daft Punk’s work, I think. I love listening to it, and I think they knocked it out of the park. …All that being said, I still do think that the score for TSN was much more creatively applied, and consequently added a much more important (and precisely visceral) layer to TSN, if you will.

(Lastly…I’m tremendously unconvinced that any other composer[s] could do what Trent and Atticus did for TSN.)

I like the score a lot. It reminds me of The Social Network mixed with Watchmen with a Nordic touch. Another sure-fire Oscar win for Reznor.

I think it’s great that some of the finest new soundtrack composers out there are people from bands.
Daft Punk, Trent and Atticus, Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead and Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

Trent fully deserved another collaboration with Fincher. They obviosuly work well together.
Daft Punk’s work on Tron Legacy was fantastic, but it couldn’t make a poor film good and infact was one of the only redeaming features of the film. Good choice on Disney’s behalf to hire them.

Trent Reznor on the other hand, is no stranger to soundtracks. Check out the Soundtrack he produced for Natural Born Killers. It’s amazing. Brilliant cut-and-paste job film clips, speach and cut from amazing bands that fit so, so well. He’s got a good ear.

You left out The Chemical Brothers and Hanna.

      • Jason

        you’re right there with Hanna.
        That was good.

Trent & Daft Punk are not composers. The soundscapes that they create for films are really more sound design. When they do get closer to compositional devices…. it is actually a team of another 6 to 10 Elves that take their “ideas” and translate them into some form of musical expression. These Elves are highly trained professionals with degrees in music from schools like Juilliard, Manhattan School and Berkeley School of Music. The Elves should have received the Oscar, except that the final product was really not deserving. The Film received something like 8 Oscar Noms… the music just went along for the ride, and came up a winner, because of the momentum of the film, not the “score.”

      shut the **** up

You shut the **** up! Stop crying like a little bish and face the fact that Trent owns and he brings it every time.
