The release of David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a little over six months away.  With that in mind, Sony has begun the film’s marketing campaign and a red-band trailer has already rolled out overseas (although technically it’s just “unrated” because the MPAA doesn’t evaluate international trailers).  While I’ve been checking YouTube to see that trailer, Deadline reports that a domestic green-band trailer is set to arrive Thursday, June 2nd so we won’t have to wait long to get our first look at the film.

Hit the jump for a description of the red-band trailer.  The film stars Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgard, and Christopher Plummer.  The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21st.

girl_with_dragon_tattoo_book_coverWhile everything from any IMDb user should be taken with a grain of salt, here’s how one described the trailer [via /Film]:

So a few thoughts on this, anyone that is worried about it not following the Orginal/book can put that worry to bed. This looks to be as graphic if not more then the orginal. The trailer consists of a bunch of quick cuts of scenes from the movie. Alot of things from the Orginal that we only see in still photos and hear characters talk about are actually filmed and shown. Any worry about Rooney Mara not looking the part don’t need to worry. There is a shot in the trailer of her topless pulling on a shirt much like Noomi Rapace does in the others. Mara looks the part for sure. Skinny as Rapace, only thing it looks like they may have done is toned down the punk look some. But not alot. Not sure what else to say other then the trailer was very intense, it was set to Led Zeppelins immigrant song.

For those just tuning in, here’s the synopsis for Stieg Larsson’s novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo:

An international publishing sensation, Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo combines murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue into one satisfyingly complex and entertainingly atmospheric novel.

Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.

    Christopher Plummer
    1 nomination
    BEGINNERS

He finally broke through with Oscar voters after millions of films for The Last Station. Will they want to welcome him back when he’s playing a dying newly out gay father?
We’ve got a hunch that this could finally be Plummer’s year

    This girl is hideous!!!

Did you read the book, Jack-ass? Lisbeth is not supposed to be physically attractive – she’s supposed to be strange and emaciated, almost like a 14 year old kid in her physique and not particularly beautiful. Noomi Repace almost wasn’t cast because she was *too* attractive for the role.

I don’t know how to read thank you very much. Thanks for making me cry. What an absolutely terrible way to start my day, asshole!

Does anyone have a link to the new redband trailer so we can watch it State side?

Noomi Rapace is one of the most unattractive women I’ve ever seen, but she was a great Lisbeth. Normally Rooney is very attractive though.

Anyone see the Nightmare on elm street remake? Unfortunately I did, she played Nancy, did quite a shit job, don’t get your hopes too high for this one folks, unless Roony became a better actress that is.

Did you see “The Social Network” Fincher can make an actor of a musician. In Fincher We Trust!!

I saw the trailer tonight. I’m friends with someone who works at the theater. I was absolutely amazing. Really dark gritty images set to what sounded like trent reznors(SP) version of “Immigrant Song.” It was like a really cool music video almost.

Kinda epic that you used my post on IMDB for the story. It really is a great trailer.

I’ve seen the trailer, I was skeptical about this movie at first but now I’m just really excited for it. The Imdb description is fairly accurate. It’s a lot of flashes of things and you don’t get a good look at anything, but you can see some things from the book. It looks like they are going to do flashback sequence of the day Harriet disappears. There are flashes of Lisbeth getting thrown on the bed, and Blomkvist getting shot at. From what I’ve read it is Trent Reznor and Karen O covering Immigrant Song. It’s Karen O singing and I feel like they were going for an Evil Fingers cover sort of feel.
