Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have released a new trailer for director Gareth Edwards’ upcoming monster redo Godzilla. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, and Elizabeth Olsen, the film “pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s arrogance, threaten our very existence.” This full-length trailer delves a bit deeper into the film’s plot without giving too much away, which is all-too-rare nowadays (ahem, The Amazing Spider-Man 2). Cranston appears to be the film’s voice of reason as his voice narrates this new trailer, and while we do get hints of a twist on the nuclear origins of the titular monster, the main focus is really on conveying the epic scope of the film through a series of sweeping shots. Some of the unfinished effects look a little spotty, but all-in-all this is another exciting glimpse at what’s poised to be a monster hit at the box office this summer. I also like how they’re still keeping any full or clear shots of Godzilla himself out of the marketing—at least for now.
Hit the jump to watch the new trailer. The film also stars Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe, and David Strathairn. Godzilla opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 16th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Godzilla:
An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
