Back in 1979, Oscar-nominee Martin Brest co-write and directed the Christmas-release comedy Going in Style. The caper film centered on three aging friends, played by George Burns, Lee Strasberg, and Art Carney, who decided to rob a bank in order to get a final, fitting payday before they left this world. Now, three Oscar-winning actors are uniting on screen for a modern-day remake of this film, with a script polish by Theodore Melfi that keeps the spirit of Edward Cannon's 1979 story alive.
Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin are today's equivalents of the original's comedic trio, and they step out in style in a new trailer for the film. Zach Braff directs, following up his 2014 crowd-funded effort Wish I Was Here. The hook of this film seems pretty straightforward as far as the trailer shows: The three old friends find themselves on hard financial times and unable to provide for themselves or their loved ones. So, they decide to plan a bank heist for one last major score. It has whiffs of the 2013 comedy Last Vegas, which also saw Freeman pal around with veteran actors and performed to the tune of $134+ million at the global box office.
Also starring Joey King, Christopher Lloyd, Ann-Margret, Matt Dillon, Peter Serafinowicz, and John Ortiz, Going in Style is set to open on April 7, 2017.

Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, the three risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.
The film also stars two-time Oscar nominee Ann-Margret (“Tommy,” “Carnal Knowledge”) as Annie, a grocery cashier who’s been checking Al out in more ways than one. Joey King (“Wish I Was Here”) stars as Joe’s whip-smart granddaughter, Brooklyn; with Oscar nominee Matt Dillon (“Crash”) as FBI Agent Hamer; and Christopher Lloyd (“Back to the Future” trilogy) as the guys’ lodge buddy, Milton. John Ortiz (“Silver Linings Playbook”) also stars as Jesus, a man of unspecified credentials who agrees to show the guys the ropes, and Peter Serafinowicz (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) as Joe’s former son-in-law, Murphy, whose pot clinic connections may finally prove useful.
