THE SOCIAL NETWORK Wins 4 Golden Globe Awards Including Best Motion Picture (Drama)

I have just endured three painful hours of the Golden Globes. Thankfully, folks who deserved awards got them (except for Community, which wasn’t even nominated, so way to screw that up, Hollywood Foreign Press Association). The Social Network took home four Golden Globes including Best Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross), Best Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin), Best Director (David Fincher), and Best Motion Picture (Drama).

THE SOCIAL NETWORK is not that good.

I agree Junie, it is in no way the best movie of the year. Movies that are better include: 127 Hours, Black Swan, The King’s Speech, True Grit and The Kid’s Are All Right… but we know that the social network being about facebook gives it a ton of brownie points and on top of that it has justin timberlake in it; so what did we all expect. I mean the movie made nerds look like jocks, and jocks look like dweebs. We all know nerds run Hollywood after all, so whats not to love.

By the way, this comment in no way implies that The Social Network is not a “good” movie, only that their are other more deserving features this year that deserve recognition in place of The Social Network.

  Actually if you think about it that was only implied during the movie, the ending kind of squashed our entire idea of who he is with the statement that Rashida Jones’ character made at the end of what a jury would think. Our image of these characters was likely through the eye of a jury and not meant to be a factual account (which would explain why so many liberties where taken with regard to historical accuracy).
  
  Clearly the image painted was that he was a sociopath. Especially when you consider that most of the guys heartlessness came from his speech (in the movie), and then compare that to the way the guy actually talks in real life you come to the conclusion that the movie has no basis in reality, with the exception of the lawsuits and maybe he screwed over a couple business associates to get to the top (and what entrepreneur turned billionaire hasn’t done that a few times).

    Obviously the film has no basis in reality. But it does heroize a jew taking on the wasp establishment. Only problem is jews are part of the establishment and Zukerberg is and was atheist, (his great knowledge of the greek classics also supports his religious beliefs) meaning he only joined the jewish fraternities for the social/economic privileges.
    
    The film basically says the opposite. Zuckerberg was no renegade and rebel, he had no problem putting on the Jewish hat if it got him ahead. He has no deeper principles guiding him, which means he can’t rebel against anything.

Best Score? Yeah, cool and diferent but memorable like was Hans Zimmer in Inception. No way….
bESt director?? A guy who takes hours doing a scene, and do too many takes?

I agree with best scrip,…. and maybe best film. but Best Score and Best director nope

Best Director…. Christopher Nolan 100%
Im guessing HFPA wasnt a Dark Night fan either…..Nolan snubbers.

social network is film-making at its best.

i’m a die-hard Nolan fan, even more than a David Fincher fan. but Fincher really did the best film of the year. and the argument that a film should win best picture but not director is stupid. a great film is anchored by a great director. i love Nolan, and even Aronofsky, but just because Fincher is not really doing anything flashy doesn’t mean he is not doing a great job with directing. i mean, just the way he facilitated the edits, shoots, scores, and acting, shows that he is the best director of the year.

example, Requem for a Dream shows Aronofsky really directing something, but it’s no way better than The Wrestler which is i think his best film.
