69th Annual Golden Globes Nominations Announced; Nominees Include THE ARTIST, THE DESCENDANTS, HUGO, and MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

by     Posted 2 years, 250 days ago

The 2011 Golden Globes nominations have been announced.  I don’t pay them much attention as an awards barometer since their nominations can be purchased (the Globes are run by the shoddy Hollywood Foreign Press Association) and the event is more to get a bunch of celebrities in a room together and hand them an over-valued award.  But that doesn’t mean it’s not a fun show to watch and this year should be plenty entertaining with Ricky Gervais returning to host.

As for the nominees, you’ll find the usual suspects: The Artist, The Descendants, Hugo, The Help, and Midnight in Paris.  I have to give the Globes credit for having a separate comedy category, which allows actors like Brendan Gleeson (The Guard) and Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) to get nominated.  As for “snubs” (again, it’s tough to take the Globes nominations seriously), nothing from The Muppets was nominated for Best Song .  Hit the jump for the full list of nominees.  Winners will be announced on January 15th.

holy cow!! collider!, whats with all these damn ads!!

    • Castor

I love it when I try to watch a trailer on here but the ads interrupt the loading after 10 seconds….

      • 3rsSt

My God….I agree about all the ads. I love Collider but every time I come to this site lately, I’m literally assaulted with ads flying in my face…across the page…popping up at the bottom banner of the screen. I’m clicking to many times to shut these things down on the “close” buttons I feel like I’m playing Space Invader to kill the ads instead of coming to my favorite film site. PLEASE…tone it down, Collider!!!

No Original Song for The Muppets!??

  • Sajorij

The nominations are mostly ok, but where THE HELL is Nicolas Winding Refn for Drive? Also, the absence of Breaking Bad in the Drama section is a joke.

Why is there no Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or TV Movie?

  • Jamie

The best comedy category is a joke. Except from modern family which has recieved numerous awards already none deserve praise. Community, Parks, The League, Louie and Sunny don’t get a sniff. That’s why the globes can’t be taken seriously.

  • dawko

Where the hack is Warrior ???

  • JR209

Whats with the globes fascination with George Clooney, I’m sorry what is the worlds fascination with George Clooney?? He is not that amazing, Ides of March got poor reviews and performed poorly and yet here it is with a whole bunch of awards to chose from. Where’s Tree of Life, Drive?

Also I would of thought that Deathly Hallows Part 2 would of gotten some recognition, for at least score, or screenplay.

    Gary Oldman Snubbed
    Nick Nolte Snubbed
    Tree Of Life Snubbed
    Breaking Bad Snubbed

    Albert Brooks Not Deserving
    George Clooney Not Deserving
    Ides of March Not Deserving

Golden Globes are getting as bad as the Oscars

  • Marlboroliteman

The Golden Globes Awards are in the same league as the MTV Movie Awards.

  • SaadGKhan

Where is MarthaMaryMayMarley & Tree of Life ? Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkins ?
    That’s terrible..

  • Sara

I think nomination of American Horror Story well deserved. And honestly, is one of the hard categories.
Because there is Good Wife, Dexter, True Blood.

John Hawkins didnt deserved a nomination, and he already was last year. Elizabeth Olsen was snubbed. I am kind of tired of Streep, is like every movie she does, she needs to get a nomination. They just should give her an Oscar.
Seriously,… I am tired too of Sofia Vergara and Modern Family. yvette nicole brown deserve a nomination, with community. tHE New girl… seriously Glee. I couldnt finish the first episodeo from this season. Is getting old….

Am I the only one upset with the huge snub of THE WALKING DEAD?!

  • Joshua

Compared to most years, I have to say that this isn’t all bad. Of course there are the obvious snubs, but let’s not forget last year when The Tourist received 3 Golden Globe nominations. So I mean, yeah, of course there are the obvious snubs. But this is actually a step up for the Golden Globes. I especially love that Owen Wilson got some recognition for his role in Midnight in Paris. He had one of the best performances of the year, and while he won’t get a thing from the Oscars, at least the Golden Globes did well with it’s Best Comedy/Musical category this year.

The biggest problem here is that The Muppets didn’t receive any nominations for Best Original Song.

I appreciate that 50/50 got the nominations that it did! I wish more people would talk about it for awards season!

Sons of Anarchy not getting 1 nomination is a crime.

  • felliniboy

Globes has always been a “party”. They’ll try their best to nominate “famous” people. It’s not really surprising that Clooney is nominated for directing and ‘Ides’ is(even though the film is not really generating Oscar buzz this season). I’m not saying that Ides is a bad film and it does not deserve its recognition, but the fact is it’s kind of been left behind already this award season. If Nic Refn is an “accomplish” director already in Hollywood, they’ll nominate him.

  • felliniboy

i hope MIDNIGHT IN PARIS beats MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. Harvey should stop these tactics of campaigning a film for “musical or comedy” when the film is a DRAMA! You think Michelle Williams performance is “comedic”. Just because it has musical number that doesn’t mean it’s a musical.

heck, if the tone of My Week With Marilyn is “comedic”, then the King’s Speech should have been nominated as a comedy.

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS! YEY! ofcourse the Woodman won’t attend. How great is it if Owen Wilson wins! oh well, the Artist lead actor will surely win.
