20th Century Fox has released a new full-length Gone Girl trailer. Directed by David Fincher, the adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name stars Ben Affleck as a man who becomes the lead suspect when his wife (Rosamund Pike) disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary.  After watching this trailer, this movie firmly remains one of my most anticipated of the year.  It’s unmistakably Fincher with cold, dim light permeating every scene (if there’s even much of a light source at all), and a remorselessness amongst all the characters.  There’s a bit more of the plot in this trailer as well, and while it doesn’t have the eerie attitude of the teaser trailer, it does a good job of conveying both the mystery and creepiness of the story.

Here’s the official synopsis for Gone Girl:

GONE GIRL – directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn – unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

Feel free to leave your thoughts on the trailer in the comments section.  While author Gillian Flynn says the third act of the movie is different than the one in her book, we still ask that you please not spoil the novel in your comments.

Thankfully they’re not giving anything away in terms of the third-act changes. This is all straight out of the book, and it looks great. Can’t wait.

I trust Fincher with the marketing. The man can do no wrong in my opinion.

Another winning formula with Fincher + Trent Reznor + Atticus Ross. This should be the last trailer though, between now and October. A 3rd trailer could over saturate our assumptions on the story, the whodunnit and possible ending. Great trailer indeed.

After I saw the teaser of Gone Girl I started to read the book, although I haven’t finished yet, I really loved that the trailer didn’t give away too much, so I’m excited and looking forward to see it. Besides the score of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross sounds awesome!

Great trailer, looks like they are sticking pretty close to the book other than the ending. It also shows how they are going to handle the sections of the book that are her diary, I assume her writing and voiceover will be in the film in a number of scenes.

If they can just come up with a satisfying ending (the book totally botched it), there’s some potential for this to be a pretty great movie.

i’m sure i’m missing some, but right now the only movies coming out this fall i’m genuinely excited for are this and Interstellar

INHERENT VICE dude. Never forget about PTA!

imagine if the 3 of them gets award buzz. THR roundtable would have PTA, Nolan, Fincher!

Not sure what you’re trying to say. Either you’re trying to make a joke and I’m not getting it, or you REALLY have no clue what the plot is. Which is good for having the movie take you by surprise, but not so much for forming an opinion based on what you think it is.

I actually hope that this is what you think and other people think, because if they honor ( not adhere strictly to) the source material and manage to make even a competent film people will realize that it transends the Lifetime movie cliche. I like that the trailer gives it a little bit of that spin too. Just finished the book yesterday, actually couldn’t put it down and spent the whole day reading it.

If Lifetime movies are psychotic and effed up – then yes, this is a Lifetime movie.

I love Collider, but in the summer of 2014, a website is still debuting a trailer in ONLY Quicktime format? Seriously??

Does Fox have a deal with Apple?

    • Adam Chitwood

Trust me, we much prefer YouTube. This is the only official embed available right now since Fox chose to give Apple the exclusive trailer debut. We’ll be updating the article with a YouTube embed as soon as one is officially online.

  • Chris

Why would anybody ever decide to premier anything in Quicktime EVER?? The absolute worst. I hold it against the movie.

Trailers are usually the best things about Fincher’s movies. I’ll admit, this doesn’t look half bad. Of course, I’ve been fooled before.

Well if liking Fincher’s movies gives me rapier wit like that, I guess I’m missing out.
