Following on the heels of a new poster and image, a new trailer has been released for John Moore‘s A Good Day to Die Hard.  If you were unaware that the Die Hard franchise is a series of action movies, this trailer will be quite an education.  In fact, there’s very little to identify the film beyond “It has action.”  It seems like after Die Hard with a Vengeance, there’s a misunderstanding about what a Die Hard movie is: John McClane (Bruce Willis) getting the ever-loving shit kicked out of him, wise-cracks, and swearing. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re stuck with the new movies being rated PG-13 from now on, so that’s a third out of the equation.  Also, there was always some ability to suspend disbelief that a person could live through the stunts.  I don’t know if that will be present in the series’ fifth installment, but there’s certainly a lot of McClane and his son (Jai Courtney) jumping through panes of glass.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Anne Vyalitsyna, and Mary Elizabeth WinsteadA Good Day to Die Hard opens February 14, 2013.

Here’s the official synopsis for A Good Day to Die Hard:

Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack–unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

The poster and the trailer are just… Does anyone else think this looks really cheaply made for a Die Hard movie?

  • Beatific

Even if the film is total shit – it was worth doing another just for that poster.

Cough Cough cough HACK Weeze, pant, pant, DEEP INHALE, cough cough cough… this franchise is coasting on fumes, and we’re choking on them, after the last one, this one looks no better… unless solid review slide in, pass

live free die hard was great, those complaining about the pg-13 aspect…just get the unrated version on blu-ray and dvd….bruce will drop the f-bomb a ton still. As for violence? the violence throughout all the movies have been rather tame when it comes to gore…so with the omission of a few cuss words PG-13 isn’t really a big deal.

This is the first ‘Die Hard’ film the will not be released during the summer. That’s not good.

It’s hard to believe that FOX spend over $100m to make this crap. FOX could have made the 24 movie for far less. Wake up FOX and greenlight the 24 movie. They’re legion of fans who are dying to see Jack Bauer on the big screen.

24 has run its course! All seasons were the same damn thing and the movie would be a rehash…Jack Bauer is an uninteresting character…i’d rather them put a Die Hard straight to DVD movie in the theaters then a dumb 24 movie.

Looking good! The fact this is opening in February means Die Hard sadly can no longer compete again summer superhero movies (or at least that’s what the studio thinks). But this movie is going to blast the Robocop reboot out of the water.

You know, as much as I try to be cynical, there’s just something about watching John McClane be John McClane that puts a smile on my face. I’ll go see it.

But we’re not watching John Mclane again. Bruce Willis isn’t playing him anymore. He’s a totally different character to the one in the first 3 movies.

      • Lance

He’s the same character, just older and less easily fazed.

It’d be weird if he was the same bewildered, “How’d you get into this mess, John?” guy from the first movie, after all that’s he’s been through now.

      • Nerdgasm

Characters grow and while this isnt the BEST growth of a character i think the last movie and seems to be in this one are pretty close to the Mclane in Die Hard 3. i would hate, as stated above, the bewildered john to show up every time. The main thing is that he does whatever it takes and it doesn’t matter if he gets broken or if he may die he still goes at it.

    What a waste of money!
You can smell the stereotypes. An America cop in Russian with his wuzzy ass son. Ex KGB arm dealers? Are they smuggling weapons grade plutonium to IranThe bullshit list goes on and on.
    Looper was awesome!

The first three movies were loaded with stereotypes. The horrible German accents, the cop who’s waiting for a desk job because he’s seen some shit, the “I won’t put up with your shenanigans” police chief, the unscrupulous reporter. The first three movies were total pure action B-movies, but they acknowledged it. The fourth one kind of forgot that, which is where the charm was lost. As worried as the February release makes me, maybe it’s a sign that they’re going to settle for another R rated movie, or at least are embracing it’s campy-ness. Wishful thinking, I know

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but
I find this matter to be really something that I think I would never understand.

It seems too complex and extremely broad for me.
I’m looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
