In the words of Game of Thrones and all television: what is dead may never die. Despite being sent to a watery grave — or so we presumed — at the end of Gotham Season 1, Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney is set to reappear (or resurface, if you want to go with a pun which I always do) in Season 2. It does give new meaning to Season 2’s tagline: Rise of the Villains …

TVLine reported the news earlier, but noted that while Fox has confirmed the return of Fish, they haven’t yet given any indication about how she might return (zombie? I’m going to with zombie). Still, as showrunner Bruno Heller told the site last year, “I would definitely not assume anything in a town like Gotham. It’s very unpredictable, the comic book world.”

The decision is likely to divide fans, but it could play in to the Hugo Strange storyline the show is readying. Of course, it’s also not a huge surprise given that nothing on Gotham is exactly subtle. It is its own odd little world within the DC comics TV universe.

What do you guys think of the news, and how do you think they’ll bring Fish back? Further, will she stick around, or will it just be a stunt? The report says she’ll be back for “multiple” episodes, although not necessarily as a season regular. Begin the speculation!

Gotham returns Monday, February 29th on Fox:

When the show returns, Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) takes a hit for Galavan’s murder, but doesn’t let Gordon (Ben McKenzie) off easily. Meanwhile, Gordon and Bullock (Donal Logue) investigate the body-snatching spree of Victor Fries (guest star Nathan Darrow), one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers.
