Gotham fans have been seeing images of Penguin’s father (as played by Paul Reubens) and B.D. Wong’s debut as Dr. Hugo Strange, in addition to news of Fish Mooney’s return, but it’s still all about Mr. Freeze. The classic Batman villain is the centerpiece of a new promo for the series teasing the “wrath of the villains.”

EW was the first to reveal the promo that sees Detective Gordon (Ben McKenzie) examining a cop who’s been frozen mid-gun fire, while the second shows another human popsicle with the words “Free My Wife” written across the ice. Obviously, Freeze has been here. When House of Cards actor Nathan Darrow signed on to play Victor Fries, the network revealed we’ll see the character’s struggle to save his terminally ill wife Nora (Kristen Hager) and the inevitable toll it takes on his psyche.

Fans got a snippet of his debut in the fall finale, but see him in action in the promo below.

Darrow told USA Today of his character:

When somebody has a great need, or let’s say they have all of their investment in one thing and that thing is threatened or even destroyed, how does one go on? Maybe somebody pulls back or finds something else to care about. Or maybe that person gives in to a chaotic response that then really widens the rules of their life. I would maybe propose that villainy, as we’re talking about it, is a way through extreme difficulty or is oddly a way to have things matter.

The promo also featured Wong’s Dr. Strange (not to be confused with the Sorcerer Supreme). The psychiatrist brought in to head Gotham’s Arkham Asylum is a reoccurring role as he conducts experiments on the inmates to create superhuman beings for Indian Hill. Fox teased that the series’ coming return will have higher stakes as “more ambitious and depraved” supervillains are introduced and “a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City.”

Gotham returns to Fox on February 29th
