Fox’s Batman prequel series Gotham is continuing to fill out its cast of recognizable faces. In the pilot alone there were nods to The Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and even The Joker, and now the show is adding Harvey Dent aka Two-Face to its roster. THR reports that Nicholas D’Agosto has landed a recurring role on the series as the city’s assistant district attorney, who of course later becomes the villainous Two-Face. Some of the show’s depictions of these famous villains are better than others—Robin Lord Taylor is quite creepy as Penguin, but Cory Michael Smith’s iteration of Edward Nigma (who later becomes the Riddler) is downright annoying and Camren Bicondova’s Catwoman (or “Cat” as she likes to be called) is too self-aware, so it’s a bit of a toss-up as to which category Harvey Dent will fall under. More after the jump.
D’Agosto has shown strong screen presence in things like Final Destination 5, Heroes, and The Office, so he seems like fine casting here as long as showrunner Bruno Heller keeps the winking and referencing to a minimum with regards to his character’s fate. THR notes that D’Agosto is poised to recur on the first season, so expect the character to pop up sometime soon.
I still don’t think the show has found its footing, but there’s enough to like about it (Donal Logue and Jada Pinkett Smith in particular) to keep my interest for the time being. It will certainly be interesting to see how things progress as the show gets past its “hook” and gets to dig into the stories at hand.
