We’re well into the back half of the first season of Fox’s super-heroic prequel Gotham. Last we left off, Fish Mooney was still stuck in a prison off some isolated island and James Gordon had blackmailed his superior into promoting him. What’s in store for the various budding villains of Gotham City – Oswald Cobblepot & Edward Nygma? What other villains will be introduced in the not too distant future? How does the first season come to an end? And what can be expected from season two? Questions! Answers! Bam! Splat! Poof! KABOOM! Sorry – wrong show, wrong version of Batman…

Executive Producer John Stephens and cast members Robin Lord Taylor, Ben McKenzie and Cory Michael Smith were surprisingly candid at the WonderCon 2015 Panel for the hit series. Below are the bullet point highlights of everything revealed.

How do you keep the inevitable outcome for all these well-known Batman heroes & villains fresh?

• Producer John Stephens confided “It's something [he] keeps in mind when [he’s] telling origin stories.” “There’s so much media about these [characters] but [I] want to approach it in a fresh new way.” Stephens compared it to taking a trip to Chicago. There are various different pathways that will inevitably lead you to the destination – but hopefully, if the show is doing its job, it will create a path - a journey the viewer is not familiar with. The show, he said, is that unknown “underground tunnel”.

What’s in store for Edward Nygma (aka The Riddler)?

• Per performer Cory Michael Smith: “There's a lot of exciting stuff [for Nygma]… You get to see a different side of Edward. He's kind of a light guy but he meets a crisis [in these final episodes] and how he responds to [that] crisis is different than what he is like in [daily] life.”

Will Fish Mooney ever get off that gosh-darn island and return to Gotham?

• Of-course. According to Lord Taylor, Oswald and Fish “have a reunion when she returns to Gotham. He learned everything about Gotham City from her. Even though that relationship is fraught and dramatic, Oswald still respects her.”

What new Batman characters will join the series in the not too distant future?

• Per Stephens: “We always want to walk the fine line of the reality of our world. Walking right up to that line where super-villains live. So there are a lot of characters from Batman lore that fit that bill. People like Victor Freeze – who’s a science villain. You can play a lot of his abilities without going into the world of superheroes.”
• "Clayface and Mad Hatter are both villains we're going to bring in [as well]. They both have great backstories and great personalities. Clayface especially is a character I want to [explore the origin of].”

Will James Gordon ever be corrupted?

• Per McKenzie: "Gordon will never become corrupt per se. I think the more complicated question is how far will he go? Will he decide the ends justify the means? How much bad will he do to do good? I think that's the evolution or devolution of the character throughout the series. In order to fight the bad guys, he has to get into the muck and get a little dirty himself.

How will Bruce Wayne develop in the second season?

• "That's one of the fun things we're looking forward to next year," Stephens revealed "The Bruce Wayne we all know -- there's a duality to his persona. There's 'Batman' and there's 'Bruce Wayne'. That fake playboy carefree Bruce Wayne [persona]. In season two, you're going to start to see that 'Bruce Wayne' persona develop as he starts to create a public face to hide who he actually is. So we get to watch that schism take place."

Will the Court of Owls ever appear on Gotham?

• According to Stephens -- "The Court of Owls is something we've discussed a lot. We keep digging up very close to it without quite pulling the trigger. It's clear that there is a group of shadowy individuals that control and influence Wayne Enterprise and have great power in Gotham and may or may not be connected to Carmine Falcone. Is that The Court of Owls? Maybe... Keep watching and those questions will be answered."
