LA VIE EN ROSE Director to Helm Grace Kelly Biopic, GRACE OF MONACO

When I was at the Toronto Film Festival, TIFF Bell Lightbox had a promo in front of every movie promoting their upcoming Grace Kelly exhibit, “Grace Kelly: From Movie Star to Princess”.  Now it’s their festival and they’re allowed to promote whatever future event they want, but by the end of the festival, I loathed Grace Kelly.  Watching a promo 37 times in nine days will do that.  Hopefully, my enmity towards Kelly will have faded by the time Grace of Monaco hits theaters.  La vie en rose director Arash Amel is set to helm the film, which will focus on Grace’s life in 1962 when she became instrumental in mediating the conflict between French leader Charles De Gaulle and her husband, Monaco’s Prince Rainier III.

Hit the jump for more on the project.

According to Deadline,  the movie, budgeted at $15 million, will detail Grace’s “political maneuvering behind the scenes to save Monaco.”  She was only 33 at the time, retired from acting at 26, and had won an Oscar for Best Actress by 26.  If you’re older than 33, you’re allowed to now feel bad about your life.

I imagine A-list actresses will be falling over themselves to play Kelly.  Michelle Williams has a strong shot at a Best Actress nomination this year for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, and while her performance is a large part of her awards’ momentum, it doesn’t hurt that she’s playing a beloved Hollywood icon.  Additionally, the actress who gets to play Kelly will “humbly” play one of the most beautiful leading ladies in Hollywood history and depict one her greatest accomplishments.  If Grace of Monaco is even half-decent, set aside an Oscar nomination slot.

    • Oh My God!!!! That’s what I was coming here to comment! She really is perfect, IMO.

There is no actress living who is a more spitting image of Grace Kelly. Rosamund Pike may not be a household name, but she’s a great actress.

For once I’d like to see a biopic where I’m not taken aback by how the actor/actress looks nothing like the real, historical figure. Rosamund Pike would be the embodiment of Grace Kelly from looks to acting ability. Jeez, lets hope we get Pike instead of a studio choice like Gwyneth Paltrow or somebody.
