Given its lengthy development and production period, director Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi pic Gravity had been highly anticipated for quite some time when it finally hit theaters this past October.  Despite the lengthy wait, the finished product did not disappoint, garnering near universally positive reviews and dominating the box office—its worldwide total currently stands at $516 million.  The pic is a serious awards contender, and now there’s a bit more Gravity to go around as co-writer Jonas Cuaron’s spinoff short film Aningaaq has been made available online.  Directed by Jonas, the 7-minute short ties into Gravity in an organic and fascinating way, and though it was originally envisioned as a neat extra to include on the Blu-ray release, Warner Bros. has now decided to submit Aningaaq for Oscar consideration in the Best Short Film category due to the positive response it has received at festival screenings.

Shot on location in Greenland, the short is a wonderful companion piece and is well worth watching.  Hit the jump to take a look.
