Just two weeks after taking home the Best Comedy Golden Globe—and just ten days after we all found out writer Nick Vallelonga might just be a conspiracy theorist—Green Book nabbed yet another top prize of the award season. The period piece directed by Peter Farrelly took home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures at the 2019 Producers Guild Award, which took place on January 19.
So what does this mean for the Oscars, which are fast approaching as awards season hits its stride? Extremely hard to say! In its 29-year history, the Zanuck Award has preceded a Best Picture win 20 times, including last year's winner, The Shape of Water. The two years before that, though, Zanuck winners La La Land and The Big Short both came up empty-handed in the big Academy category.
Over on the animation side, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse continued to get some love with an Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures win. For TV, The Americans, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and The Assassination of Gianni Versace won their respective categories.
