8 Clips from GREEN LANTERN

     June 6, 2011

The wait is almost over. Warner Bros. has released 8 new clips from director Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern, which hits theaters in less than two weeks. Based on the comic book, the film tells the story of Hal Jordan (Reynolds), the first human ever to join the intergalactic peacekeeping Green Lantern Corps. From all the recent trailers that have been released, and the huge batch of high resolution stills showing off finished visual effects, the film looks like it’s going to be pretty fantastic.

Hit the jump to watch the clips. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins. Green Lantern will be released in 3D on June 17th.

If you haven’t yet, check out Steve’s set visit video blog, as well as his on-set interviews with Director Martin Campbell, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, and Producer Donald De Line & DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns

Here are the clips:

Here’s the official synopsis:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

man… the fight scenes look really poorly done. They got me flip flopping… first I thought, “Wow, that’s bad CGI” then “ya know what, Reynolds may be able to pull it off and the CGI got better” and now “well, crap.”

  • Ben

Damn, really mixed emotions on this one. On one part I love seeing stuff like the springs flinging the tanker into the air and shooting it, but other parts looked kind of half baked. Still hoping…

  • Mike.Hutnan

Perhaps instead of paying people to make matte posters they should have made the cgi for the catapult, springs under the truck, etc. look even remotely good. I also don’t think that the score really works, hopefully they used one that isn’t from the actual scenes in these clips. I doubt it though. Also, Ryan Reynolds voiceover for the flying and fighting was pretty poorly done.

I am not trying to be a stick in the mud – well, maybe a little bit – I am probably going to wait for this to come out on DVD or Blu-ray though.

Dear Lord, I get sick of reading comments on Collider. You are all such a bunch of whiners. Whatever movie you make comments on, it is never quite good enough. It’s like reading the bloody agony column of a newspaper.

These movies are made for people like you, but you always seem to hate em before you even go see them.

    • Brenno

so true bro. I just dont get it at all. Every movie im g’d up to see always has these moaners and groaners commenting.

Every post automatically has the same morbid ass comments….. dont know if its just a lack of pussy or its been too long since you felt some dirt on your hands, but ffs let yourself be a little excited for some trivial entertainment. Better yet, take a multi vitamin and go lift some weights.

      • Brenno

btw, it isnt just collider. If you can believe it, collider is actually more optimistic then some of the other movie news site’s… by optimistic, i mean not as cynical.

      • Blueorangeny

Brenno – what do you expect we have “wanna be” know it all, people who actually think they’re in the business or have expeirence in the field to claim what is right or wrong. I call these people “jail house lawyers”, basically people who’ve been locked up a few times, been in the system and since they’ve been around they automatically assume they know how the law and system works. Same relates here, we have fans, people who follow comics and haters, they all assume they know how it should work because their fans. They funny thing is, where are they comparing what we’re seeing with? this style of comic is the first that’s been ever completed on such scales

All and all not a bad film and yes its the same with the Harry Potter films. If it’s not execatly like the book/comic, you get all kinds of grief. I’ve read many comments about Warner Brothers and how they are not doing a good job on producing Superhero films. Think about this the next time you feel like a rant against WB. They could just not make the films at all!

THAT LOOKS AMAZING!!! DAMN!!!!!! Green Lantern looks amazing!!!

  • Rafajones

That last clip looks pretty awful!!!!!!

  • jokerface

What is wrong with you people!? It looks freaking cool!

  • Lance

Saw the trailer for this before X-Men: First Class. The movie was good. The trailer for GL did not convince me. I mean, look at the mask on GL’s face at the top of this page! It’s totally fake!

It’s almost like somebody thought Lucas’s prequel movies were the greatest films ever made, and decided to take this movie further down the trail Lucas blazed.

    • DodgeyDude

The mask is fake. Doh! Of course it’s fake, the mask is generated by the ring, it’s not a real mask, and because the ring generated it, it will always look weird. If you read the comics, the objects generated by the ring always look weird.

Get over it! This film is going to do things that no other superhero movie has done before, and because of this, some people will love it, and some people will hate it.

But, you can’t please everyone. I for one will reserve judgement until I see the finished product.

      • Lance

Great justification for bad cgi. Might as well claim Jar Jar is a great character and totally realistic, because he’s an alien and that’s just how an alien would be.

      • Blueorangeny

@ DodgeyDude – Like I said there’s no way of changing these people’s mind on it. They’re either haters or fans who don’t agree on RR being Hal. You are not going to convince them. The only way is through box office numbers and the word of mouth from us who know it will kick ass. They’re thought on how certain things should be invalid, just their opinion. They don’t even have a point of reference to use in comparison. Like I said before this is the first time a movie this size for a comic is being produced. In fact the haters which most likely are haters should hope this movie does do well because if the audiences response favorably then it will open doors for the science fi side of Marvel.

@ Lance – the suit is created by the ring, how would a spandex, or any other material be used to explain how a suit for a GL is created.

It’s too green for me. ^^

People seem to want this movie to fail spectacularly. It seems every other post is some “negative nancy” posting the same old criticisms that they have been spewing since last November. I also think it is worth noting that there is a substantial quality difference between watching these non-HD clips on a computer and seeing it on a digitally projected movie theater screen. Wait until you see the movie (or read reliable critics reviews) before you proclaim this the next big flop

    • Carmichael

That’s because not only a few fans think this will be a let down for Warner, if you look for at Deadline of boxofficemojo they tell the same story: Awful first trailer, audience not engaged with the premise, bad effects, a trailer every week tryin “desperately” to gain awareness and it’s not working besides a core fan audience.

For me there’s not a single shot in all Green Lantern videos better that the entrance of the Howling Commandos in Captain America.

  • Lance

GL could suck big time and still make a ton of money, like Transformers 2.

Captain America – now there’s a trailer that’s just about perfect. Hope the movie delivers!

  • jubs

    This looks gay.
Ryan Reynolds looks like a glowing Peter Pan.
If you see this movie you fap it to the jolly green giant.

  • Jh

Will you be doing a screening for sf?

  • ello

the Green lantern clip against paralax looks awful. it has that fake unrealistic cgi fantastic four look and feel. really horrible action sequences.

  • GL206

look at all these marvel fan boys trying to hate pathetic. Now don’t get me wrong i am not just a DC fan but a comic Fan and this movie looks better then Thor not saying that it was a bad movie but a lot of the people hating on this movie are probably the same ones that where hating on x men first classes the ones that where saying that it was gonna be a bad movie and look how that turned out. This movie is gonna be great

  • CaptainHamster

Must say that in a summer with movies such as X Men First Class, which delivers on all levels a rounded and compelling fiilm, Green Lantern must be able to deliver.
Or their will be a lot of dissappointed people.
    Myself included.

  • Jabberwooky

    No Seth Rogan?
