New Featurette: “World of GREEN LANTERN”

by     Posted 3 years, 91 days ago

Green Lantern is a tough sell to moviegoers who aren’t well-versed in the logic of comics.  There are a lot of us out there, enough that Warner Bros. needs to draw a pack of us into this bizarre alien world to make money on the property.  The marketing department is busting its ass to spread the gospel of the Green Lantern Corps., releasing another second behind-the-scenes featurette to follow up on Tuesday’s entry.  The simple title says it all: “World of Green Lantern.”

Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins star.  Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), opens in 3D on June 17.  Watch the featurette and the new footage within after the break.

Official synopsis:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

The “World of Green Lantern” looks like an awful lot of fake CG. I shall avoid it.

Wow! by judging your comments and your nick name your probably a 16year old Marvel kid, if the CG look like $h!t then it is, but you cant sacrifice story over effects, is a bad judgment, you should leave the lack of support on this movie inside you and not complain about it, if you like you can go to other web pages were your comments are very much appreciated……. puff

The “World of Green Lantern” looks like an awful lot of well crafted and detailed CG. I shall see it immediately upon release.

All these trailers and featurettes stink of desperation. Let’s face it – this movie it going to have powerful appeal for a very small audience of hard core fans of the comic…and no one else. Even in the comic world, GL is an acquired taste. Frankly speaking, if it wasn’t for Ryan Reynolds, I can’t imagine any women anywhere buying a ticket. I’m sure there are plenty of nerds who will disagree with me – just not enough for this to make bank. I think the studio should have gone with a smaller budget, reigned in the scope considerably and gone with fan boy casting – like the dude from Firefly they won’t shut up about. The scale of this project would have been better suited to a character with broader appeal…or maybe it is finally time to lay off the super hero movies for a bit. That would be nice.

Alright many people have been complaining about the cgi and suit in this movie and are critizing it based on the first teaser trailer which was clearly rushed. Green Lantern will be a box office success because of casting blake lively and ryan reynolds. Like what guy wouldn’t fuck blake lively lol and I say it will do around 70 million or more opening weekend. The marketing has tremedously increased and the movie gets a second weekend run on the 24th with no competition until tranformers drops on the 29th. So that is probably another easy 40 million domestically or more, also the different international releases help strectch profits even more as the movie will gain some popularity. I say it does around 700-800 million worldwide when wrapped up.

@Whatever – Lol! You are just a troll. Thor had just the same featurettes. Green Lantern will be the a-bomb in comicbookmovies. It looks great, story amazing and cast are really great! Looking forward to this and Captain America. In brightest day..

Yeah, Whatever is right, they should have made a low budget piece of shit that was Green Lantern in name only…..what a moron.

Like I said, plenty of nerds…I enjoyed GL before I moved on to other comics myself, mind you, but it really doesn’t matter. It isn’t about me or the rest of the nerd world. This material just isn’t going to fly for general audiences – the power is weird and the backstory is convoluted and distinctly guy oriented. Also, the footage we’ve all seen looks like video game cut scenes. Mark my words and check back in with me after we see a middling opening and an 85% drop off in ticket sales a week after release.
All that said, by the way, I’m pretty sure it would be a different story if they had gone with RR as Flash instead – I think that movie would have played well if they had thrown the same budget at it.

It’s going to be great seeing you be proven wrong just like all other idiot haters from the start. You know, the same ones who were bitching about the movie being comedic and other nit-picky details that didn’t even materialize.

This movie isn’t as “weird” or “convoluted” as something like… I don’t know… Avatar, which didn’t do too badly. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Your opinions have no real basis.

Green Lantern will kill at the box office. And while I agree that the golden age of Green Lantern was mundane at times, Volume 4 which debuted in 2004 with Hal’s rebirth grabs you by the balls and yanks you all across the cosmos.

All the naysayers will see it, despite what they say.. they know it.

Why Green Lantern doesn’t have a troll that quotes entire rosters of heroes and villians from wikipedia?

    Where’s the love, guys?
