Also included in the batch are a few official set images featuring director Martin Campbell. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins, and tells the story of Hal Jordan (Reynolds), the first human ever to join the intergalactic peacekeeping Green Lantern Corps.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

well, looks like Warner’s added bucks was spent wisely.. the effects look good, compared to that original trailer, where Reynolds resembled the CG Scorpion King in Mummy Returns.

It looks way much better than those awkward first glimpses we’ve had from before. I hope it lives up to everyone’s expectations:D

Yawn – again, I’m calling it, the first mega flop of the summer.
That second pic of Saarsgaard reminds me of Harry Knowles, btw.

Everything looks much improved from those initial clips and photos they released — which they’re probably regretting now.

One remaining gripe: I really wish they hadn’t made the mask go down to the tip of his nose like that. It looks weird to me.

You’d think you’d go with more of a Lone-Ranger-y mask. It looks like Green Lantern is on his way to a masquerade ball or something.

    • Jeff

And yes, I know that the mask usually looks like this in the comics. Whatever. It looks weird live-action, and they could have gotten away with changing it.

Reynold’s head looks like a bad Photoshop job stuck on that CG costume. I’ll be waiting for the reviews before I pay to see this.

And why does he always have that same stupid look on his face? Its literally the same in every shot. Real depth to his character and high emotional stakes it seems…

    Looks awful. Sounds awful.

Run! Run away! There’s a tsunami of CGI s#!t coming at your city! Evil will touch you with its poo-finger!

“Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot,…if (he) can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears,…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.”

Anything in that sound remotely original? Besides the “cocky” test pilot who, simultaneously, must “overcome his fear”? He’s the first multi-personality superhero!

Anything you’ve seen look remotely live, as in “live action”? See an optometrist. Computer games have ruined your vision.

  • Smedley Worthington

Among the most unoriginal pics I’ve ever seen. Every alien is basically human with a weird color skin, a chicken or hog face, or in the ultimate act of alien creativity… a big brain? Yawn.

The plot has the idiot cocky test pilot gain superpowers, initially with the standard sophomoric / puerile response of an 11 year old, then suddenly gain understanding and maturity to use them to save the universe when he realizes his sweet/sexy/virgin/whore girlfriend is in danger. And all in 3d!!?

One wonders what the studios could make with their resources if they simply hired good storytellers over the cocky test pilots they currently utilize to “write” and “direct.”

You guys are too harsh on the visuals. I think those floating heads look awesome!

It’s the origin story you idiot, you want them to change the whole story so isn’t hackneyed by your standards.

Then it’s the, ‘waaaah, they weren’t faithful to the books waaaah’.
