Warner Bros. has released a couple of new images from Green Lantern. They’re essentially screen grabs from the trailer, but seeing an image of Ryan Reynolds wielding a chain gun is still pretty cool. Not to mention we get a pretty good crowd shot of all the different Green Lanterns.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, and Mark Strong.  Green Lantern opens in 3D on June 17th.  Click here for all of our coverage on the flick.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Not listen to Nick. He doesnt know shit. Green Lantern is shaping up to be one of the real comicbokmovies of our time. Looks beyond awesome! I cant wait! GREEN LANTERNS LIGHT!

well… it looks good, except the image where green lantern holds the machine gun, green lantern doesn’t need weapons to fight

Except they do. Their rings create what they imagine, Hal Jordan didn’t have a great deal of creativity like his predecessor did. He’d make guns, jets, green arrows, big green boxing gloves, whatever simple little construct he needed at that moment. A lot of green lanterns create weapons. John Stewart created a lot of guns because he was in the army, Laira created a lot of close ranged weapons because she was an accomplished martial artist. A Green Lantern isn’t all bubbles and beams of green light, if that’s all they did then half of the attraction there is gone.

The machine gun is a construct of the ring. I’m imagining that because it’s when Hal is first learning how to make the constructs and the constructs are based off of the user’s imagination a big machine gun would probably be one the more obvious things for him to imagine being useful in battle, haha.

What the hell are you talking about? That’s what the ring does, it makes things, to use as weapons, or whatever else he might need.

For those of you debating the validity of the machine gun as a green lantern construct -

Yes, it is a possibility that Jordan would have imagined a gun.

No, it is NOT possible for a GL ring to make items that require additive objects. In this case the gunpowder for the bullets. Jordan would need to know and understand the chemical compound and process needed to create them. The ring makes what it’s bearer wills it to… but the bearer needs to know who to make the parts.

In the comics it is VERY rare to see constructs occur that involve intricate moving parts.

Sorry to dampen things, but both camps are right and wrong in this debate. Hal would think of such an item, as it is basic, but… his ring wouldn’t be able to fashion it.

    looks dumb..

Correct on the rings making objects. They can make anything the wear has to the will to think of.

The movie looks like a bomb. :( CGI costumes are lame. Trailer did not leave me wanting to see more as someone who reads GL.

Want a good GL movie, first in flight was decent.
