New Trailer for GREEN LANTERN

     May 20, 2011

A new trailer for the superhero flick Green Lantern has been released. If you want to check it out in 3D, a 3D version will be attached to screenings of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides this weekend. Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, the first human ever selected for the Green Lantern Corps. The movie also stars Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins. Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) directed the comic book adaptation, which hits theaters in 3D on June 17th.

Much like the recent footage/trailers that have been released for the film, this one focuses a lot on the space stuff. It’s also filled with a lot of exposition, which I think is a smart move. The general public most likely has little to no idea what Green Lantern is about, other than the fact that Ryan Reynolds is in it. This trailer basically lays the foundation for the story and the universe of the film. The more I see from this movie, the more excited I get. Watch the trailer for yourself after the jump.

Here’s the official synopsis for Green Lantern:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax… he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all. The movie also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Jay O. Sanders, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi, Jon Tenney, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins.

Now thats a far better trailer. Well put together.

The CG still looks awful. Just look at the still frame before you even watch the trailer. They couldn’t even get his mask right. I saw Pirates at the midnight showing last night (disappointing movie but that’s another story), and while the audience cheered heartily for Muppets and laughed at Transformers, the end of Green Lantern was greeted with dead silence – not a good sign.

    • Barry Allen

Who cares what a bunch of people in a movie theater think of a trailer. The fact that the theater was silent does not make it a good or bad movie. Obviously Green Lantern is not for the people who hold the Pirates franchise in such high regard.

This summer’s Jonah Hex. It looks like a dreary video game – in a summer glutted with super hero movies some of them are going to have to go under the bus.

I’m going to be bold and say more people world wide know who Green Lantern is than know who Ryan Reynolds is. Donovan even mentions him in a psychedelic 60′s song, not to mention every kid in elementary school. Besides most people refer to Ryan Reynolds as ‘Van Wilder’.

  • Alex H

Still. Don’t. Care. About this movie.

    • rbevanx

Yeah I’m waiting until it’s on DVD…Actually when it’s on TV thinking about it.

  • Steve Rudzinski

This movie is going to be amazing. So amazing. This trailer was perfect, the CG looks perfect now (including the mask). Oh god so amazing.

I think this is going to be DC’s Iron Man. It’s not going to make as much money as the first IM probably but damn, it’s going to make bank. Sci-Fi fans, comic fans, kids, and women (even if it’s just for Ryan Reynolds pretty face).

awesome trailer, but the sword sequence with sinestro reminded me of ras and bruce in batman begins.

  • Terry

Shitty SE galore. Damn. This looks like crap!!!!

  • VerasGunn

This is the first trailer for the Green Lantern that has gotten me genuinely excited. I’m a huge GL fan, but I’ve been hesitant up to this point because all of the trailers have focused on stupid little cutesy jokes that Ryan Reynolds says. Lantern constructs, the Corp, the Guardians, Parallax, a lot of the back story boiled down into a nice neat trailer.

  • Migz13

FINALLY. A well put together trailer for this thing.
Whatever happens.. I’m still gonna see this damn movie.
If it happens to be a good flick… I can’t wait to see/hear what the haters would do now. hahaha!

    green lanterrrrns SHITE!

  • adam

4th trialer for this wb needs to spend this energy promoting harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2

    • Steve Rudzinski

Why would they expend the resources that GL raised for promotion to instead promote the movie that everyone is going to see?

Stop hating blindly for no reason. You like Harry Potter, I like Green Lantern.

      • Ringbearer1420

Green Lantern looks superior to any of those crappy Harry Potter films. Those films are cinematic garbage that exist just to line WB wallets.

  • HULK

Looks great! But, is this 2 player or what?

Also, 4th trailer, numerous clips n tv spots. Do they really want me to fork out £10 bucks to see the talky boring bits in a cinema full of noisy popcorn rattlers? Think I’ll rent on blu ray.

Cinema is dying, and its not because of Piracy, who’d a thunk eh?

  • KorbenDallas

What exactly is the demographic for this movie? I can’t see anyone but comic book junkies liking this one. WB/DC is reaching.

Reading all the comments, I have to say, wow. This appears to be quite polarizing. I’m on the side of being quite excited for the film. It looks better and better to me. However, I do realize that this appears to be pretty nerdcore. I’m not sure how the mainstream crowd will take it. I think they were actually wise to choose Reynolds for the role (despite not really fitting the comics character). I say that because he helps bridge the gap and make it more accessible to audiences at large.

This is one I’ve been waiting for and I’ll be there in theaters.

  • TheTrickster

The mask still looks like crap.

  • Migz13

going back and seeing the other comments, I can’t help but agree about the others saying that this movie is more catered to the hardcore comic book fan rather than the occasional moviegoer. I think people should do a little brushing up on their green lantern factoids before seeing this film to fully enjoy and understand it.

  • Tommyk123123

I just can’t get excited for this. The fuckloads of CGI are off putting IMHO. It’s even more out there than Asgard… which at least had real actors in it. All the space stuff still looks like a Mass Effect cutscene to me.
