New Trailer for GREEN LANTERN Starring Ryan Reynolds

     May 4, 2011

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the superhero tentpole Green Lantern.  Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, the first human ever selected for the Green Lantern Corps: “A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers.”  The movie also stars Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins.  Martin Campbell (Edge of Darkness) directed the comic book adaptation.

This trailer offers everything you’ve been waiting to see: character moments for Hector Hammond (Sarsgaard), Carol Ferris (Lively), Kilowog (voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan), and first looks at Amanda Walker (Bassett) and the Guardians of the Universe.  I’ll admit that the CG on the Guardians looks kind of crappy, but there’s so much potentially great stuff in this trailer that I’m willing to suspend by disbelief a little further.  I have no idea if this film is going to work, but I admire its ambition. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Green Lantern opens in 3D on June 17.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

Here’s the official synopsis for Green Lantern:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax… he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.  The movie also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Jay O. Sanders, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi, Jon Tenney, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins.
