Warner Bros. has been remarkably quiet on Green Lantern despite the film’s release being only a few months away. It’s amusing/disheartening that we’ve come to a point where fans start to worry if they’re not being hit with aggressive marketing months before a film’s release date, but there’s a good reason why Green Lantern has gone quiet: they needed time to work on the effects. If you recall, when Warner Bros. released a trailer for the film last November, some of the effects were less than stellar for the inter-stellar adventure and audiences were left unimpressed. Now the LA Times is reporting that “The movie’s intricate 3-D visual effects, including numerous scenes set in space and featuring aliens, are taking longer than anticipated.”
But now marketing is about to heat up for the film. Not only will new footage from the film be shown at WonderCon this weekend, but the studio will release the new trailer with Thor, which is also in 3D. Hit the jump for a synopsis of the film. Green Lantern is due out June 17th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Green Lantern:
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all. The movie also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Jay O. Sanders, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi, Jon Tenney, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins.

BULLs***.
This effects aren’t ready excuse will not work anymore. They know they have a giant CGI fest or turd on their hands. Will probably turn out to be entertaining, but overall a crappy movie.
sounds really weird…and i was also wondering what happend to the emerald hero..
first they start the pr mashinery in 2009 with the announcement, then they even go ahead with the sequel before the first one is completed.. a teaser trailer and then nothing. if the havent finished the fx shots for the trailer, how they gonna deliver a finished movie in time ?????
as kid is used to be a huge green lantern and flash fan – i hope they get it at least part of it right!
jojo iron man 2 did have a mega marketing campaign and it was a total turd….how many more movies fit this category. its a little early to tell if they will replace steve carell with ricky gervais ( metaphoricly speaking).
it wasn’t just the fact that the effects looked like crap that disappointed people. it was the fact that they hired a director who was known for making bond movies and realistic thrillers, they cast an actor a lot of people thought would be perfect for the role, and it it sill came out looking like a cheesy 90′s flick
I just hope the movie won’t turn into a crapfest overall and gets itself gang raped by Captain America and Thor. Green Lantern deserves a good live action movie.
