The Golden Age of comic book movies has already given fans of Marvel and DC comics some of the most epic big-screen clashes between superheroes and supervillains we've ever seen. In recent years, the trend has been to pit superheroes against fellow superheroes, with films like Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman taking inspiration directly from the contentious comic book arcs. However, one superhero who's always been known for his anger and unpredictable, chaotic nature has been fighting friends as often as foes, even in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Of course, we're talking about the Incredible Hulk. We've already seen the big green meanie take on Loki, the Chitauri/Leviathan, and Ultron, but he's also sparred with Thor and Iron Man. Now, with the surprisingly heavy hitter known as Groot in the mix thanks to James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, we might actually see the two brutes square off in an upcoming movie. Vin Diesel, a.k.a. the voice of Groot, teased as much in a recent interview from Brazil's Comic-Con which also included talk of his upcoming film, XXX: Return of Xander Cage.

Here's what Diesel had to say in his chat with the fine folks over at Screen Junkies:

Screen Junkies: Are we ever going to see Groot and Spider-Man in one movie?

Vin Diesel: That's an interesting question. I think, if it's up to James Gunn, you're going to see a Groot/Rocket movie after [Avengers:] Infinity War. I think that's highly possible. We shall see. I know that, somewhere in the universe, you're going to see Groot and Hulk battle. I know it. You can write it somewhere, you're going to see that poster: Groot vs Hulk.

"Groot vs Hulk" certainly would make a good movie poster. In fact, it's already been done on the cover of "The Incredible Hulk" comic before, and was briefly seen in an animated form in Marvel's The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. First appearing in Tales to Astonish #13 (November 1960), Groot--the Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Dick Ayers' creation--didn't join up with the Guardians until 2006. However, an earlier version of Groot did appear in The Incredible Hulk Annual #5 (Oct. 1976), alongside five other monsters to battle the Hulk.

In animated form, Groot appeared in the episode "Michael Korvac" and, due to a slight misunderstanding, ended up manhandling the Hulk and then getting decapitated for his trouble.

Will we see a reenactment of these scenes, or something wholly original once "Groot vs. Hulk" comes to the big screen? I'm guessing it'll either happen during the meet-up between The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy--these first meetings don't always go so smoothly, after all--or in some sort of take on the "World War Hulk" arc, but the latter's a long shot. How do you want to see "Groot vs. Hulk" go down? Let us know in the comments!
