Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my favorite movies of the past few years and one of my favorite Marvel movies. It’s one of those rare films that everyone seems to love and it’s due to James Gunn. Not only did Gunn write a great script filled with action and adventure, he loaded it with cool and unique characters that were able to play off one another with a lot of humor and charm. Do you remember before Guardians came out when a lot of people wondered if Marvel could make a movie with a talking tree work? Funny how all those naysayers are nowhere to be seen now.

When Marvel announced the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I figured Gunn was going to deliver the goods, but at this year’s Comic-Con, after seeing a few clips from the upcoming sequel, I’ll admit the footage looked even better than I expected. And one of the main reasons: Baby Groot. While a lot of us assumed Groot would be back to his full form in the sequel, during the writing process, Gunn figured out that by keeping him young it added a lot to the story and made the relationships with the other characters work even better. You’ve got to trust me when I say once you see Baby Groot interacting with Rocket and Yondu you’ll be smiling from ear to ear. For more on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage that was shown in Hall H at Comic-Con, read Tommy’s recap.

Shortly after watching the awesome footage, I landed an exclusive video interview with James Gunn. He talked about the decision to include Baby Groot, Yondu being part of the Guardians, how Peter Quill has two fathers and balancing the two relationships, when we might see the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer, and how the sequel is exactly what he envisioned as he was writing the film. Check out what he had to say in the video above and below you’ll find some recent Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 links.
