The first glimpse we got of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was in the above-seen silhouette, which featured the core team in a rock-concert styled homage to the film's musical elements. Now, we have a new concept art image that's bursting with color and reveals the full team, along with some surprises. It's too good to waste words on describing it, so I'll leave it for you to gander at below.

Chris Pratt (Quill/Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Karen Gillan (Nebula), and Michael Rooker (Yondu) all return for the sequel, which also features Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as one of Yondu’s Ravagers, and Elizabeth Debicki in a still mysterious role. Look for more from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 leading up to its May 5, 2017 release date.

For more on Mantis, EW chatted with executive producer Jonathan Schwartz, who said:

“She has never really experienced social interaction. Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”

The version of Groot in this sequel is also different, but perhaps new, perhaps not:

“He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot,” Schwartz says. “He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”

Here's the official synopsis for Gunn's Marvel sequel:

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
