The script for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 exists, folks. After months of hard work and simultaneous casting and prep, writer/director James Gunn announced today on his Facebook page that he has completed the screenplay for the Marvel sequel, adding that the pages were due to be sent to stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, and Vin Diesel.
As with all Marvel films, there will no doubt be further changes and alterations, but in response to a comment on the post, Gunn said this is “essentially the final draft” of the script. Furthermore, in response to an inquiry as to actors absent from his tagging, Gunn noted that Karen Gillan and Bradley Cooper aren’t on Facebook, and there were a couple he had to leave off because they “haven’t been officially announced” as being a part of the cast.
So what does the story entail? We have no idea, really, but we do know that Gunn aims to tell the story of Star-Lord finding his father. Matthew McConaughey was previously sought for a role in the Marvel film that seems like it could be that of Peter Quill’s dad, and recently we learned that Gunn and the Marvel team are eyeing Kurt Russell for the part. With filming poised to begin next month in Atlanta, we’ll no doubt be hearing plenty more casting announcements soon.
So take a look at the script cover below, and rest well knowing that the screenplay also includes the entire Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 soundtrack list.
