Marvel has released the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Written and directed by James Gunn, the follow-up reunites the titular Guardians of the Galaxy—Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel)—to battle a new threat and search for Peter Quill’s father.

This is a nice little teaser ahead of the official, full-length trailer's reveal sometime in the future. It was pretty nice of Gunn and Marvel to cobble this teaser together in concert with release of a new poster for the superhero sequel, especially since so many people had been pestering the writer/director about when it would drop. Hopefully this will tide people over until then. It should, anyway, since it features our core characters in a variety of action-packed and dramatic scenes, though it stops short of revealing too many plot details in favor of some quirky, awkward dialogue between crew members. In short, it's what you loved about the first film, just in a bite-sized sequel version.

Watch the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer below. The film also stars Kurt Russell, Karen Gillian, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, and Glenn Close. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.

From James Gunn himself:
