GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Extended Clip Shows Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot in The Kyln

     July 21, 2014

With just a little over a week to go until its big release, early Guardians of the Galaxy reactions are coming in and, as we told you yesterday, they’re tremendously positive.  There’s always been a chance this whole thing could go south considering it’s such an unusual and highly stylized Marvel film, but ever since that very first trailer dropped back in February, it really did seem like James Gunn pulled it off.  At this point we’ve got loads of quality promotional material to further prove Guardians could be a standout, all of these adoring first reactions, and now we can add a solid extended clip from the film to the collection, too.

The piece is nearly five minutes long and gives us some serious background on all five main characters and also an extensive look at what goes down when the team is thrown in The Kyln.  Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in theaters in 3D on August 1st.  It stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee PaceKaren GillanGlenn CloseBenicio Del ToroMichael RookerJohn C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz, and features the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.  Hit the jump for the Guardians of the Galaxy extended clip.

Here’s the official synopsis:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

I’d say “just under two weeks to go” is more accurate than “just a little over a week to go”.

    • SorryNotSorry

      *sighs deeply*

I am hooked on a feeling, that this movie is gonna be good.
But one thing that is bogging me right now is that, how is Rocket isn’t aware that he is a Racoon but then is aware that he has got a short life-span?

    • Pk

That’s because he is alien who just happens to look like one. Though in the comics he has been to earth once and apparently he was creeped out by their appearance. In this movie they must leave out that part

      • Guest

I’ve never read the comics but from what I’ve read about the movie up untill now I thought that Rocket is an actual raccoon who has been geneticly modified / experimented on. This clip seems to confirm that (atleast the geneticly modified part and the fact that he is the only one like him, meaning he is not part of an alien race).

      • Pk

He comes from a planet called anotherworld where he and his species resemble regular animals. But they are all servants to a more sentient superior race of aliens who must experimented on him.

      • Vulcan

He’s from Halfworld, which is a mental asylum, and Rocket and the other species of his kind were genetically modified to look like animals so that they could take care of the patients. Rocket was in charge of security before he left to become a bounty hunter.

      • Pk

Oh yeah that’s right. I got confused with the name

      • MJ

So explain the Brooklyn-Jewish accent to me then please???

      • Pk

You will have to take that up with Bradley cooper

      • Jason Reichow

Same reason why aliens in any movie speak English in any accent… it’s a movie!

      • Pk

Many people say he has the cockney accent on the comics and whatever appearance he has made in the tv series and video games

  • Drake

    This makes me happy…

  • Ellieinto

  • John

What’s that on Rocket’s back? Looks like some sort of a microchip

    • Snarky

      Pet tracking microchip?

  • DEADP00L

Yeah I am so in this for the Racoon.

I usually don’t like Space movie’s, but this thing seem’s interesting. I like the characters, and the feeling/look of it ( from the trailers anyway). I was kinda planning to see it, becuse you know, Marvel. But I think I will like it better then i first thought.

    Wow, Rocket’s voice is unconvincing

    • Snarky

I actually kind of like it from what I’ve heard of it so far although I had pretty low expectations.

  • Muhammad Alif B As’shaari

    How can’t that clip doesn’t give you a good feeling…?! :D
