A new Guardians of the Galaxy image has gone online, and this one shows off Lee Pace as the movie’s big bad, Ronan the Accuser.  In the film, Ronan is after a mysterious orb, and according to the official synopsis, “has ambitions that threaten the universe.”  However, the orb is in the possession of thief Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), who teams up with the assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), the rampaging Drax (Dave Bautista), the gun-toting raccoon Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and Rocket’s muscle, Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) to keep the orb safe.  Ronan’s costume and makeup is yet another cool design in a film that looks like it’s brimming with strange and wonderful oddities.  Now that we have a good idea of Ronan’s look, I’m eager to see more of his personality.  With the movie’s release a little over a month away, I assume we’ll be getting another full trailer in a few weeks or so.

Hit the jump to check out the new Guardians of the Galaxy image featuring Ronan.  The film opens in 3D on August 1st, and also stars Benicio Del Toro, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. ReillyPeter Serafinowicz, Michael Rooker, and Glenn Close.

Here’s the official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Recycled tires, nice. The Kree are way greener than us.

The Kree are blue skinned, Skrull are the green ones.

Green as in recycling, not the color of their skin.

I don’t know much about the character. The chest, hoody, his forehead, and purple skin looks cool but that black stuff doesn’t look that great. I’m sure it’ll be badass when the film is released though…

My first reaction was: His hood ain’t on straight.

If that’s the reaction Marvel wanted people to have, then we’re all good.

Hm…Grace Jones, anyone? I like Lee Pace, but this film won’t do him any favors. Besides the endless promotion/reception here, who cares about this film universe? Maguffin…blah blah…wise cracking hero…blah blah…ragtag crew…end of the universe…blah blah…blah…Transformers, Star Trek reboot, 2nd Thor movie…it’s all the same. (Also, I am becoming a little tired of Zoe Saldana being in everything too.)

Snowpiercer. Here’s to the long cut making it to USA screens.

I think domestically this movie will do better than internationally. The wisecracking stuff people abroad might not even get or think it being wisecracking but is actually an annoying element to the characters. Although Tony Stark can have his moments it’s not nearly to this extent.
