In addition to three new images from James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we’ve got the details for how you can check out the first trailer for Marvel’s upcoming superhero film. In addition to all that goodness, Gunn and star Chris Pratt recently shared some insights into the movie and teased how it will be different than any comic book film adaptation that’s come before it. A tall order, but this cast and crew appear to be up to the task.
Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, Peter Serafinowicz, and Benicio Del Toro also star. Guardians of the Galaxy opens in 3D on August 1st. Hit the jump to check out the new images and to see what Gunn and Pratt had to say.
First up, you should know that the new trailer for GotG makes its debut on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday night (11:35 ET/PT), with a special intro by Pratt. You’ll be able to catch it here shortly after it premieres. Here’s what Gunn had to say about Guardians of the Galaxy, comparing it to a favorite indie band that hits it big (via USA Today):
“All of a sudden, Arcade Fire becomes incredibly popular: ‘I don’t know if I like them that much anymore.’ I’ll happily deal with the cool people not thinking I’m cool anymore and making bigger movies! … He adds that the movie’s really about “these characters, their emotions and their relationships.”
For more insight on one of those characters – the lead role of Star-Lord/Peter Quill – here’s what Pratt shared:
“Being stuck in space with no accountability makes for a strange combination of youthful vibrancy and cluelessness in a childlike man. He does some things that most people wouldn’t get away with. But part of his arc is being willing to essentially sacrifice himself for the greater good of other people.”
As for the movie itself, Pratt says:
“There’s a whole lot to this movie — it’s not a stage play. You couldn’t make Guardians of the Galaxy the play and put it on Broadway. It really wouldn’t work. [Audiences] know what to expect at every turn. So that’s why it’s important now to do a comic-book movie that no one’s ever seen before.”
