Disney has released a couple of new Guardians of the Galaxy images that highlight Chris Pratt’s overall badass nature as protagonist Star-Lord aka Peter Quill.  Though some were nonplussed at the prospect of the Parks and Recreation actor leading a major Marvel comics adaptation, he looks to have nailed the heroic/comedic tone of the lead character in writer/director James Gunn’s film based on the first trailer.  These two new images provide further evidence that Pratt very much looks the part while donning Star-Lord’s signature mask.

Here’s the official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

We get it already! When are we getting a look at the villains?!

    • Kevin

Yes, let’s have a complete play by play of every character of every scene. I mean it worked for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, right?!?!?!

      • DEADP00L

Did I say that? Let’s leave the drama queen act at home and rationally think that through.

    • The Flobbit

Speaking of villains, seeing Lee Pace in Desolation of Smaug in such a stunning, electrifying performance, he is just going to KILL Ronan.

Could someone explain the practical use of the helmet. I assume the glowing eye pieces serve some technological purpose, since it leaves the top of his head open (did Marvel just want his flowing hair to always show?) and his neck open to close attack. Why even wear a helmet if he’s not going to wear full-body armor?

Obviously, I haven’t read the comics but the character design just has me curious. From what I found online, in the comics his helmet has never had an open space with his hair sticking out. But from the initial concept art the Disney/Marvel released, his helmet let his hair flow.

hahaha!!!! I was waiting for somebody to say this.

    • The Destroyer

I assume that the mask allows him to breath on planets devoid of oxygen, he is human on alien worlds after all. The eyes probably do allow infa-red or something. In the comics it regulates his breathing, allows him to see data (like Iron Man), and do a few other things.

      • STAR-LORD #ROUGE SQUAD

        He’s half alien too

      • The Flobbit

Oxygen has so little to do with space’s hostility. There’s also pressure, gravity, and the extreme heat and colds. That helmet helps with none of that.

Lets try and explain sci-fi because we all know it’s based on grounded reality. I think you’re looking for the non-fiction section.

They’re just sticking with the original Comics, bro.

  • The Destroyer

    Pure bad ass.
