If you just can't get enough of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy than this week should be putting a big smile on your face.  In addition to the film's first trailer and a bunch of images, director James Gunn recently commented on some aspects of the film that will likely please (and tease) fans, while probably confusing the uninitiated.  Do you want to know if an Infinity Gem will appear in the film, and which one it might be?  Care to find out if Adam Warlock or the Black Novas will show up?  Perhaps you'd like to know when we'll hear Rocket Raccoon actually speak, or when Michael Rooker, Lee Pace and Glenn Close's characters will get some exposure.  And just who was that guy holding up Drax the Destroyer in the trailer anyway?  Hit the jump for answers on all of that and more!

In an interview with Kevin Pereira over at PointlessPod.com, Gunn fielded a rapid-fire list of questions aimed at ferreting out the secrets of his Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation.  The full interview will appear at the above-mentioned site on Monday, February 24th, but a rather substantial teaser has already been released.  Listen to the interview here, or check below to read the Q&A:

Here are a few quotes from the interview if it went a little too fast for you to catch:

Is there an Infinity Gem in Guardians?

James Gunn:  Hmmm, you have to wait and see.

Do we see Gamora naked?

Gunn: Sort of.

Nova Corps – Where are they in all this mayhem?

Gunn: Nova Corps is sort of a galactic police force that exists in outer space. They’re based out of Xandar.

Are we going to see any Black Novas in this?

Gunn: No Black Novas.

Any Skrulls?

Gunn: Marvel only partially owns the Skrulls. And also, for the record, we don’t own the Badoon either. So people are asking why we have a Sakaaran in the film and we don’t own the Badoon.

Captain Marvel or Adam Warlock?

Gunn: Some of these things you gotta wait and see!

Okay, what about Glenn Close? She’s in there, right? Where was she in the trailer?

Gunn: Glenn Close is in the movie. I’m saving some people for the second trailer, which I like better than the first trailer, frankly. The main people, I think, we’re saving are Ronan, played by Lee Pace; Yondu…

So that wasn’t Ronan holding Drax?

Gunn: Well, you see him there, but barely.

So that is Ronan holding Drax?

Gunn: That is Ronan holding Drax. Yondu played by Rooker, and Nova Prime played by Glenn Close.

Why raccoons?

Gunn: You didn’t even ask me why Rocket didn’t speak. That’s the big thing people want, Rocket to speak in the trailer. I will drop a nugget that they will be hearing Rocket speak in something very, very soon.

Like an Instagram video?

Gunn: It’s gonna be something. Follow me on Instagram and find out.

Was that a conscious decision to hold off, or was it just not ready, having Rocket speak?

Gunn: Well, the design of the trailer is that it’s about Peter Quill, basically. And then we kinda get snippets of the other characters. There’s nobody talking except for Peter Quill and whoever his adversary is, Korath, who’s Djimon Hounsou at the beginning of the movie.

Will an Avenger be in the ranks of the Guardians?

Gunn: No. Not right now.

How’d you get the actors to believe they were with a talking raccoon? You said your brother was there on set playing the lines.

Gunn: My brother, Sean Gunn, wore a little green suit, and he waddled around and he acted out Rocket. I think all of the guys will attest to the fact, and they have in all of their interviews, that he was a great part of the team, and it really was Zoe, Dave, Chris and Sean who created the energy that people will see in the movie between these four characters, who are usually at odds and then sometimes find common ground. Sean was a big part of that energy and creating that. Not only was he doing a great job of performing himself, but he also gave the other actors something to work off of so that they’re not just yelling at a tennis ball.

Here’s the official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
